ENFORCEMENT on the water!!!!???

Duffer

I have attached the first decal process link. They ask for no pictures, they ask for no certificate proof, all they ask is - do you comply, accept, fail or N/A the line object question. The only time that they will ask for proof is if they audit you or you supply the info on your application.

http://www.tc.gc.ca/media/documents/marinesafety/e_first.pdf

Most of the guys I know never sent in any photos, all they did was check off boxes saying yes they comply to training, safety gear, stabilization…………. Some got aduited and requested to supply info and some got the stickersno questions asked.

I'm not saying lots of blue decal sticker operator don't comply, probably 95% do but it's the 5% that I know that don't comply and have BSed their way though the process.

Totally agree doug and we know who.....
And ill be the first to say there is a boat out there with big bold letters on the side of it im sure taking clients out as he has different people on it all the time nobody has that many friends....

It has been reported by someone I know yet hes still out there all the time its a joke, for the ones who have done it properlly Doug, profisher, myself and a few others good on you its just very frustrating thats all,
all it will take is one bust and people will scramble like rats, I personally would love to see all kinds out there checking as of now its a free for all and any fisherman knows it.

As for reporting offences doesnt matter done it in the past hell ive even volunttered my boat a few yrs back with DFO on the dock.
there was a guy FISHING cod for a whole week in the RCAS off of the bluffs even told the angler you cant fish here he said im ok im past the 50 ft mark??? WTF. told DFO as soon as i came in ill take you too him DFO response yeah we know were watching him?????

BIG FRICKEN deal its blantly breaking the law but nope too much hassle I guess, the sad part is and they wonder why we dont want to give them the time or day I have lost what little respect I did have????they have only hurt themselves pity really.....

I have a story much like Wolfs, and got the same result. I stood face to face with an marine officer from our local detachment and told him about a local operator that was not in compliance. Where he was at that moment, and where he would be the next morning, and all the days he was booked for the rest of the summer. I was told that the 5-6am launch time would not work for them as it was crew change time and he was not sure how they would go about making it happen or getting to the launch.

I laughed out loud right there, didn't impress him at all. Over 50 e-mails and texts with times, location, numbers, to local enforcment officals, nothing happened all summer. If they can't get off their a$$'s to drive to the local launch where they know illegal operators are going to work, how the hell are they ever going to do anything on the water.

I have beat this to death now, I will not hold my breath. Good on all you guys that went through the time and effort to get your stuff together. To all of those that haven't, I hope it comes back to you 1000 times over, and it will.

Doug, I know the TC office in Kelowna and Nanaimo both are adiment on having copies of everything Im not sure what TC office your dealing with but its not the folks I had to deal with. Anyhow it is frustrating to see the guys that dont comply and coodos to the guys that do...

How many sporties have these papers????

Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC)

Restricted VHF Operator Card

hhhhmmmmm As if I were you I wouldnt bother I know a lot dont as i hear cursing and swearing all the time on the radio.

The worse part that PO me the most with all of this is I went to all the trouble to get pitcures taken of the boat both in and out of the water, countless hours getting stuff, days off work, paying for all this etc etc etc bet you is close to 5 grand over 5 yrs and for what??????

oh yeah NO ENFORCEMENT.....

i think the whole program sucks ditto for the long gun crap when g-men get involved they make a meal out of a picnic like guides most of us so called sporties have been boating & fishing since we where knee high to a grasshopper wolfie do u think criminals give a rats about laws we are all in the same happy boat in the big blue sea common sense is a better part of valor keep the faith roy[8)]

notice i left out the swear words & yes the lol's.....

roy
do u think all those that even have a vhf card follow the rules

we all have drivers licenses and some still speed and some still drink and drive

just cause u know what is right and wrong, doesnt mean u will follow the rules

now wolfy i realize u are aware of this, but when u ask how many have their cards, i think REALLY is he asking that. the ones who dont wont say a word and those that do and still break the rules ..... well just dont fking care

Roy your one of the best, and i respect u tons but i know your frustrated, just like some of us regular folk

i still want a sticker if u got one;)

Just getting tired I guess it seems for us anyways on the south we go to all this trouble and follow the rules to a T yet we get hammered by restrictions (ETF run) which I know hurt a lot of us local guides thats whats really sad I know some didnt really recover.

The blantant disregard from FN selling sockeye under our noses etc etc etc but when we do every thing right we get shiat on, really how is it FAIR!!
I know its all political but it cuts deep into good everyday people.

We got pulled over in a DFO road check coming out of Zeballos this summer - first time ever for that. I also heard that they had a road check several weeks ago on the road between Cowichan and Renny and that they handed out lots of tickets to guys with too many fish and crabs, etc. Maybe they are going to start stepping up enforcement - I guess time will tell.

Long live wild salmon!!!

I'm just a sporty, but yes I have all the paperwork for everything in the glovebox, and yes I took extra coursework. And I respect all of you who put so much effort into doing things right.

Here's another idea that ought to be considered: Liability. When something goes seriously wrong on the water (as it always seems to do every year [xx(]), there are huge legal liability issues. If only out of enlighted self-interest for what could happen, it is often wise to follow the rules despite the lack of enforement.

Of course the other issue is the damage being done to the resource, and often it's by folks who should know better. That's hard to take.

Thanks to everyone who operates wisely. [8D]

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

C.L spot on I should have payed more attention in english class or maybe i'll lay off the mojitos before posting. ;) Sammy

often wondered why they don't do more of that...set up on the roads out of the hotspots and at the ferry terminals.
I've been fishing since the late 70's...used to get checked at least once a year in the 80's fishing out of Nanoose...last time I was checked was 1989...I remember the date as I'd just finished bonking a 20 lber I caught on a buzzbomb I made in grade 8 shop class earlier in the week.

C.L just about anything goes good with RON (Rum for the gringos) "new topic" drinks that go good AFTER fishing! sounds like a better topic than police enforcement. That's it everyone brings a bottle of rum to the next SPF meeting[:p]cheers Sammy

For the first time in abut 5 years I got a drive by check three times...went something like this...hows fishing, when did you guys start, how long you going to fish....wait 30 minutes, checked again, same question...wait an hour...same question except..."oh ya, we checked you guys twice already..nice boat, see ya". The whole thing reminded me of the 3 copies of everything TC sends me...first time OK, rest is redundant.

All I can say, is hopefully with some of the incidents that took place this season, more operators will want to comply for the right reasons and not rely on the lame threat of enforcement to get them to take steps to make sure their vessel and crew are safe. Clearly from the level of official interest in enforcement it will be a cold day in hell before we see much of that.[}:)]

got checked at the lens main itersection just the other week on the road to lake cowichan from rennie, lots of RCMP and DOF caught some with female crabs and some other liqure inrfractions. Second time in two years this has happend. not us tho. I am sure this will be an annual occurrance.

If you ask me it's a damn cash grab the Govt. sqeezing the last sent out of the poor tax payers. It's one thing to abide by the law but a nother to be shaken upside down by the boot straps to fill their coffers not to mention the"HST".If you think the bouy I.D test was hard Smiley try the navagation part on the power squadron test.It all boils down to the basics "COMMON SENSE" when it comes to boating, something even prof.fisherman lack."I'd rather be fishing" regards Sammy[8D]
