Egmont Prawning

Hey folks. Myself and boy Hugo are heading to Egmont for a few stays of relaxing this May. Thinking about bringing the boat and soaking some prawn traps… Maybe hunt for some oysters to cook fireside.

Does anyone have experience with prawns in that area? Is it worth it? Are there some areas close by to drop the traps?

Commercial season starts in May. Any half decent prawn spots will not be decent after the first week of May.

The good spots will be consumed by the commercial guys. Water moves super fast so plan on weighing your traps accordingly. It's an awesome area to fish, can't wait to get there myself in May.
