Effects of a Full Moon

I thought someone may have some ideas on this.

I was just in Kyuquot from the 18th-22nd; full moon time. It seems that a week or so on either side of that full moon that the fishing was spotty. It was for us but we managed a few springs and hali's weren't too tough to come by.

With respect to the full moon what are the thoughts on the effects it may have? I have read years ago about the effects in freshwater, but have not researched too much about the chuck. I have heard both "good and bad" when it comes to a full moon, but thought that the spotty reports from Winter Harbour down to Nootka may have had something to do with it? We were "marking" fish on the depth sounder in the 80-140' range but not getting much for hits unless we went down deep to 200' plus.

Just thought I would see if there were opinions and thoughts on this?

Thanks!

I am trying to "edit" my message but it is not letting me.

I will also add that all of our salmon strikes/fights minus 2 were VERY lazy hits and it would lead one to believe that they were not feeding all that aggresively. Does a full moon keep them feeding longer hours?

On a full moon I wake up with a raging "stiffy" with an urge to..........oh wait....that's almost every night. [:I]:D[:p]

Ahh come on,, exuses exuses..

75% of the people catch fish 25% of the time but 75% of the fish are caught by 25% of the people..

Very true words....

No excuses here, we were able to get into fish, but it just wasn't all that "fast and furious" and the fish seemed pretty sedentary.

Just wondering if there is any vailidity to the "premise" is all.

agree with tortuga

Full moon equals more light at night for the fish to feed, less aggressive during the day, simple as that.

I've found that during a full moon the fish will feed during the night simply due to the fact there is more light at night during a full moon. The tides are also affected, during a full moon the tides are stronger, IMO your chances of catching a Salmon are not as good with a full moon at night but I would still go out cause you just never know.

No offense taken at all. [8D]

I know instead of a full moon that you prairie folk (I was one;)) have the best success fishing for walleyes in front of lakeside bonfire. (I HAVE done it...with great success years ago in Northern ON)

:D :D :D never tried that pipen but hey you never know. I am actually more of a northern boy than a prarie boy but I know what you mean...

I have often wondered about the effects of the moon as well. But one thing I know is that the full moon causes stronger tides and according to one of our resident guides on this forum he prefers strong tides something to do with it bringing in more bait,, so I don't know..

Ive ruled that out years ago when I found the full moon to adversly effect fishing even on cloudy weather patterns.
