ECVI Halibut Fishing

With the halibut season about to open, me and a buddy are considering a trip in the first few weeks of March. Anyone know of any good lodges / locations on ECVI for halibut this time of year?

We are either launching my boat out of Vancouver or can drive and then either rent a boat or hire a guide etc.

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers.

you have to be very lucky to hook into halis on the east coast of VI.... that being said if you take a charter or ask he right people in Victoria or go up to port mcniel/telegraph cove you may have some success if you fish around malcolm island and queen charlotte straight but if your aiming at CR to Duncan area I wish you the best of luck...most halibut caught here seem to be incidental by catch trolling for salmon or jigging for lings

Yup-- what he said. Dont waste your money chasing butts on the east coast of Van Isle. Best bet is Victoria at that time of year, with the fewer miles to drive. A guide would increase your success rate too.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was hoping to fish in somewhat sheltered waters this early in the year. Seems like Victoria or Sooke might be the best bet. We will be looking at guides as I am not an experienced hali fisherman.

Cheers.
