Deep 6 vs. downriggers

So, when you're using the diver or planer, I guess you wouldn't want to use a flasher too? Just a spoon or something with it's own action? You can only wind in a fish as far as the diver, so if you have a flasher after that, and then a leader to your other tackle, that's a lot to hand line in with a fighting fish on the end?

A diver / flasher combo (9" models) are very effective. Here is the setup I use: Mag Diver >> clear Opti Snubber >> 6ft 30# mono (if running a flasher) >> 21" of 40# fluro to the head of the flash fly.
If I'm running a spoon, I'll run 8ft of 20# mono to a ball bearing swivel/spoon.

Some guys are running a "Slide Diver" with good success, it's a stealthy rig as your diver can be much farther away, (20/30ft if you want) from your bait. Once a fish hits, it slides down to the swivel.

Lots of alternatives to a Deep 6 to get down there.

Had a few hours to kill in Hardy today, took the tug's rescue boat out to Duval. Only fished one rod due to space and logistics. Deep six 100ish pulls, 10' to flasher, about 30ish inches to a green and white hootchy. Lotsa pinks and one legal by a hair chinook. Fun times.
Laughed when I read Rockfish saying it's not hard work. Maybe not when it's your 3rd shallow line, but running 2 rods as deep as they'll go so as to target chinook, hauling up pinks while still in gear so the other rod still fishes, over and over, day after day, is a killer! Might be a lot easier with geared level winds like he says, but I fish with mr2's.
Today's "rod holder" was also interesting haha

Do yourself a big favour and get downriggers already
