I am thinking as beemer stated dayshapes sunrise to sunset but you will notice on some ships it will not be taken down at sunset but you "shall" use the lights prescribed in either 30(a) or (b)

b,c,d,a,b,c,c,d,a,b how about "F" for F-head for passing too close anyways!!!!or for him yelling when he was wrong. I dont care what is "written" common sense has to come into eFFect theres the "F" again.
It is apperent the guy is a "F" UP and should be forced to take a "f" en course

As Wolf alludes to , you can debate the rules all you want but it will not change the facts that many out there either don't know the "rules" or could care less.

I personally believe that their are only two rules that can be applied to all situations on land and sea.

1. respect others
2. be honest

If that doesn't work try rule 3.

3. stick a gaff in their neck![}]

Just got this answer back from TC?

The ball can be displayed during daylight "but is meant for areas of high traffic or for narrow channels."

Very much open to interptatation! So, I guess "I" don't need to run out and buy a "ball", as I do anchor quite a bit up there!

The question was:
If I am reading this correctly -
As my vessel is less than 50 metres in length and over 12 metres RULE 30 (a)(i) and (b) applies. Meaning as long as I am exhibiting my "all-round white light" (my current anchor light), as soon as I set anchor that is all required and there is no need to exhibit the ball? There will be approximately four or five hours of daylight while I will be at anchor.

The answer is:
Your interpretation is correct, you are required to display an all around white light between sunset and sunrise and in reduced visibility. The ball can be displayed during daylight but is meant for areas of high traffic or for narrow channels.
