Choosing a surveyor

Looking at buying a Boat from down south Louisiana to be exact, what to look for in a good surveyor?

Not exactly what you were looking for but go to Yachtsurvey.com. David Pascoe is a retired marine surveyor based in Florida who has authored a few books on boat surveying, which of course he offers for sale. The website has a bunch of interesting articles focused on what a marine survey entails and common problems a surveyor will find. He may even be able to steer you in the direction of a good surveyor.

I suggest you locate a SAMS surveyor that is in the area of the boat. My last purchase I located 2 (NY Hudson River area), phoned both to discuss and then chose one. I chose based on their credentials, availability and proximity to boat as well as somehwhat on who seemed more reliable and efficient via the phone call

Finding a surveyor who has experience with the type of vessel you're looking at is good
