Webaso Heater insight.

So my new to me boat has a Webaso 3900 heater. It was installed by a dealer. The installation looks fine and the heater works great and has defrosting capabilities for the windshield. My question is around the exhaust pipe/tube. It’s wrapped in a fire proof material and clamped. It’s all done correctly according to my surveyor, but man, that thing really feels warm. Is this the way they all work? Anything additional I can do to reduce that exhaust heat? Wrap it more?

Are you concerned with the thru hull itself or the exhaust? The heat wrap is inferior when compared to the sleeve type like this https://planarheaters.com/product/p24-053-exhaust-insulation-sleeve-28mm/

The small air gap makes a big difference in heat transfer
It’s the Exhaust tube that exits to the out thru hull It’s covered with a heat resistant material. But it’s still very hot. Thru hull seems fine. I’m fine adding addition wrap. I’m just curious if others who have a Webaso find the exhaust exit pipe hot. Maybe this is normal.

I have tried just adding the wrap and not had great success, the fact that it is tight to the pipe transfers heat a lot more that sleeve style is superior in my experience. I had an exhaust run in the gunnel of a previous boat and tried both.

I’ll check mine tomorrow and take some pics. I also have a Webasco. The exhaust is covered with a wrap, but I’ve never checked to see how hot it gets because of where it’s located. Out of the way, and not really near anything. Where is yours located? Mine is directly under the floor kind of where my feet would be at the helm.

It’s down in the bilge area. There’s not much around it. Except, the diesel fuel line that feeds it. That’s what I’m concerned about. Maybe it’s just the way it is.
