Did anyone just see check 6 news ? ... the natives just leased the campground, and condos are going in ????????? ... WTF ????? ... They gave the residents 30 days notice ... yer out of here ..Ive been a regular there sinse I was a kid ... 40+ yrs , not going to be the same ..I wonder about the marina ?

Wouldn't be surprised at all that it turns into a Sooke Harbour Marina type thing and we are left out in the cold again. You watch it only the people that live in the condos will be able to launch and dock there . Hope I'm wrong, but will not be surprised if it happens.

No surprise really. Sounds like the notice may not be 100% accurate I think its 3 months legally but that's "progress" for you! Once they saw ol' Silver spray the wheels started spinning I'm sure.

Seems to me they have been talking about this for years , the real estate is too valuable.
kinda sad, but can't stop progress ??

Don't forget that about 10-12 years ago, they were going to build a casino and have cruise ships docking there to have all the passengers leaving there money behind!

I hope karma bites Russ in the butt and they get there 99 year lease with a crooked developer. He said on the news it's for the kids future, here's an idea, teach your kids how to grow up and get a career or maybe a trade and earn a good living like everyone else.

A grandmother who lives just down from my brother paid $80,000 6 weeks ago and they never mentioned "oh ya by the way your out in 10 weeks, and thanks for the $"

It's really a shame what they did, but at the same time, what were all those people thinking who were living at what I am guessing to be well below half of the cost of living anywhere else on the South Island. Caveat Emptor, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. That still doesn't make what they did right.

I bet that place won't break ground for the next 20 years, not a lot of guys would want to develop on Native land, you have very little to no recourse if things go badly. Maybe one of the richer bands is going to throw some money at it, it has the potential to be a world class destination on that piece of property.

Hope the new investors/developers take what happened here as a lesson. They'll have no excuse if it happens to them a few years down the road! I'd never invest a dollar into anything on leased land.
