Charter Boat line for leaders

Charterboat is what the pro's use. My Salmon fishing Jersey says Zellers, Canadian Tire, and The Dollar Store. These sponsors outfittted me with bobbers, Zebco thumb cast reels and snelled hooks. Hey now really, yes Charterboat is cheap and anyone will catch a fish on it too but there are some serious quality issues. Best to spend a few extra bucks and get some better line.

Well OP is in luck!

As mentioned here on Craigslist we see some of that useless junk excuse for line along with a whole pile of other useless crap all going for 10 times what it's worth!

Call Now operators are standing by!!!

If your in Ukee they have heavy leader line at Pioneer Boat Works I used to run 60lb but now run 40lb it's plenty heavy enough. The only reason I run heavy leader line isn't for salmon but when trolling along the bottom for salmon I usually pick up halibut and those buggers have a pretty good set of teeth and seems to swallow the gear deep.

I've got a 50 lber on my wall caught on 15 lb charterboat in Active Pass in 1983

believe it or not

I believe it, light line and gear are a blast! Experience shines landing big fish on light gear you wouldn't want a neebie trying that out on 15lb test that's for sure. I used to hook up to odd spring in the river when trout fishing as a kid on an ultra light trout rod and reel with 4lb test were not talking 50lbers but 8 - 15lbers and it's a rush especially when they start to head for the rapids lol once they were in unless I was prepared to get wet and chase them down stream SNAP! Landed the majority of them though, it's a very long fight and a wet one ankle deep to grab the fish once it was played out.

Charterboat was the line Ted Peck would always promote. I think he actually used it too !

"tight lines and straight shooting !"

I think I saw it at Nikka's this summer....

Thanks all for your response to my thread, all comments/info were appreciated even the amusing ones. Thanks to Rob at PNT I have some new leader material to try out. It is 40 lb "Super Star" mono made in Japan. Rob claims it is good quality stuff that they stock for the commercial guys. It better work as the reel has enough on it to last until I am to old to fish. Can't wait to try it out.

Japan actually makes some fine quality line, both in mono and braid. Back in my commercial trolling days we used a
brand called "Yamiline",and it was great stuff. I think they even still make it.

I used to use 35 pound Yamiline for leaders...it was a lot thicker than the new 40 pound big game I use now. It was good line but I prefer the big game.

Now that you mention it,profisher,I remember it being really thick line. We ran 50lb. Yami clear on our plugs, and 60lb.
on spoons and hootchie tails. It was tough stuff for sure, and was great for a commercial application.I bought a big
spool of 30lb. Yamiline at Palisters after my first summer using it,and noticed right away how much more "blowback"
I had off the downriggers. It was like I was running 40 or 50lb. test. LOL.
