Cap Mouth Closure - Port Authority

Wuz out there first light this AM when the first freighter came out under the bridge the PA were out there herding all the boat out of the shipping lane some assholes just don't get it! one guy had the PA boat with lights flashing and horns blaring 50' from his stern and he still didn't pick up and move. They stayed around till the last freighter was through then left. Kinda like a border collie herding sheep ;-)

Well, let us see now... if the Cap Hatchery could release 2.5 million Coho and 2.5 million Chinook....and the ocean were capable of supporting that....we would not need to get within a half mile of the Cap mouth at any time of year to catch fish... lol.

I think we should look for another river where we can manufacture a fishery....

the Indian River would be an amazing place for a big hatchery.. imagine all the fishing areas and tourist dollars it would bring???

the small area will still be fishable for the small boats, especially if we all go back to anchoring and mooching there, caught more fish per trip on average in those days than trolling, no one would anchor even close to the shipping lanes so there was never really any issues other than with a few morons who didn't have a proper anchor and would lose it and take out a few other boats.

it looks like that kinder morgan pipeline will be approved by the feds so if the port authority is in the know this could be a bit of a preemptive measure as there would be at least quadruple the number of huge oil tankers coming thru the port. they are already increasing the number by bringing in extra oil by rail, which is much more dangerous than the pipeline. like others have said, lots of other local areas to fish and with the cap hatchery such a success they should be able to use it to stock other areas, like up indian arm and areas of howe sound.

was out there yesterday - just before dusk a trio of big boys came out (2 deep seas and a BC ferry from dry dock) - crikey how poor situational awareness do you have to have to not see that coming??????? you are doing circles so 50% of the time you are looking west and can see them coming around Pt. Grey, the other half the harbour - wtf?
the pilot on the first deep sea was pissed!!! sounding the horn and ranting to traffic - he was even more annoyed when traffic told him the VPA boats had gone home for the night. Really not surprised if they start strongly enforcing the new rules.
Probably "preaching to the choir" so to speak, but a big boy tip is to get a vhf, and if you already have on turn it on an instead of listening to fishing chatter on 88, turn it to 12 and listen to traffic - takes the guess work out of it.
