Canucks 2024/25

One thing I notice is how Hughes' play influences the other defencemen-no they don't skate (particularly turn) as well but they seem to have more stick-to-it-ivness.

And he watches his own performance-just when I thought he had let up on his new habit of shooting more last night he was pounding shots toward the net all night.

I think these stats say it all when it comes to Hughes influence on the team.

Canucks with Quinn Hughes on ice tonight:
29:49 minutes
49 shot attempts
21 shots on goal
6 high danger chances
3 goals

Canucks without Quinn Hughes on ice tonight: 31:51 minutes
9 shot attempts
4 shots on goal
2 high danger chances
0 goals

Embarrassing this dump and change is killing any momentum, the flu bug, EP40 plus 4 or 5 others and 4 defensemen playing above their pay grade is a telling story. Islanders, Devils and now the Bruins at home, it’s so easy pinch at the blue line and an easy win against a team that refuses to use the middle of the ice. Speed kills.

They have always been a dump and chase team, never has worked and never will you have to adapt and change on the fly but I don’t think they can.. old habits die hard

I've never played the game so I need some education here. Why would dump and chase be a standard mode of play? In most team sports, ball possession is critical, control that and you'll probably win. Yes, there are exceptions, such as the chip and chase in rugby, but these are calculated tactical moves made when the situation appears ripe for exploitation.

In hockey, I understand the dump and chase by a single player to permit a shift change, but as a normal attacking team strategy? Never understood this. Someone explain for me please.

I've heard some interesting rumors recently. People "connected with the team". Sounds like there will be a bit of a shake-up coming. Hard to believe what I'm hearing, but I'll be interested to see if it's true.

It is often used if the D corp of the opposing team is on the smaller side. Dump it in and play physical on the end boards. Keeps them looking over their shoulders. I can't say that it is a good strategy to use for and entire game though.

Also used when the defencsive team is standing up at the blueline and the offensive team has less skilled players to beat the blueline defense.

The 3 conference games in 4 nights, Colorado, Utah and Vegas and their outcomes will most likely be a telling story. The defence is a mess after Hughes and with multiple players in slumps it should get interesting to watch management pick up the pieces. Who knows, maybe Miller to NYR or maybe its big bucks EP40 whose receiving a lot of negative press with his inconsistent play. Rumours were it just about materialized with Carolina in the off season. Buffalo is ripe and Canucks management is not one to sit around thinking about it. I will give them credit for that. Speculation is interesting that’s for sure. Maybe it’s Tocchet.

I would be all over that speculative trade suggested by Friedman.

Bryan and Cuzins for Pettersen. They save some cap space as a bonus

Don’t you love speculation with this crazy province.
Bryam and Cuzens for EP40 not for me. It starts with Owen Powers and goes from there. Bryam is one concussion away from a career. OPowers and Thompson I would be all over that. LOL Buffalo says no.

Getting out from that contract for #40 is paramount. If a player( Byram) is out for injury he doesn’t count on the cap. The nhl is all about performance vs salary cap percentage

Great game vs Colorado , what an inconsistent team , who knows what team tonight , if i'd have to guess , good effort tonight and lose vs Vegas , the trade with Buffalo for cousins and byrum , no way , byrum has been shipped out already once in his career for another team to move him is a red flag and any trade for EP40 has to include a top 2 dman or at worst a 3 and a good young player

Lousy efforts in the first, second great , last 5 minutes in the third and OT not so much. Myers late cross check penalty was a very weak call in my opinion. Utah looked awfully good and a team to be reckoned within the near future. The Benning trade for OEL still haunting the Canucks with Guénther looking like an outstanding prospect.

Didnt see the Utah game so no comment there , watched most of the Vegas game , they played Vegas tough , even though it seemed Vegas dominated the zone time , IMO Vegas is still the team in the west to beat , looks like an easier schedule coming up so maybe they can get on a streak

Personally really enjoyed the NHL Amazon Prime telecast last night. In-depth interviews, great picture clarity and the 2 kind on the eyes intermission ladies did an admirable job. The 2 play by play hosts talked a bit too much so move over Bieksa and Shorty and you get my vote. Sportsnet is stale and it really showed last night. As for the game the 3rd period was tough to watch but will take the win.

Well just when it looked like the boys put a decent game together they just stop skating and let 4 in in the last 7 minutes. Painful to watch one seattle player skate through 4 canucks in front of the net and hack the puck into the net. Can anyone tell me how Soucy and Juulsen are in the NHL? both minus 8 and horrendous D players
