Has anybody ever seen set screws for canopy arm rods that have a T bar or round plastic head so you can take your canopy up/down using your fingers instead of an allen key?

I've checked our three local marine supply stores without success.... and I'm really tired of finding/losing that allen key :(

I'm even willing to buy new arm hardware if the threads are custom to the set screw as long as I can solve this problem. A double header when fishing alone is far to exciting when you have to lower your rod tips to stoop under the canopy to play with the steering because you can't push back the canopy easily....

city? location? phone #?

tried search on Boat Top Shop and found one in Ohio and Missourri but nothing in Canada...

Go to Marine Traders or Lee may have someand buy allen head stainless screws and some stainless small washers. Have someone tack weld the washers on edge to the head of the allen screw.

Yeah, already tried Marine Traders, Lund Outboard, NAPA and Aero.

Challenge on welding is that the stock set screws are countersunk into the SS holder so I'd have to find/cut down threaded rod then weld a cross bar as a Plan B but I'm having problems beleiving that no one makes a nice looking solution for this problem given the number of canopied boats out there...

There is an allen head screw that has a bolt looking round head. Think of a bolt head with the corners rounded off and the allen key inset in it. these are available down to about a 1/4 inch length of thread in 10-24 thread. ( I think that is the right thread) I know they also come in a 3/8 and 1/2 inch length. you may have to file end slightly to make the right length for your application

Just a thought sir but my Lund comes standard with the t-bar set screws for the canopy I'm not sure off hand what size of bolt they use... The reason I mention it is you could maybe go to a dealer and buy or order direct from Lund a dealer.

Thanks all, one of thopse should solve me problem. Just sent an email to Paynes. I had a look thru theri catalogue at Marine Traders and didn't see anything but a direct email might fair better. Will try Lund as a Plan B and making one myself as a Plan C.

Thanks all

Sorry. me bad. I meant a shop that does boat tops.

Not sure if I understand completely what you are after but could you get a longer bolt ,then a wing nut that is over size, slide it up the shaft of the bolt,so it sits againist the head of the bolt ,then a pair of jam nuts to hold it in place againist the head of the bolt.Or,oem hardware, hard to find fasteners our speciality,604 591 1100 fax 604 591 8133 1 800 663 6554 Never dealt with these guys so cant say good or bad just some info tucked away in the office. The item you are looking for are called rosettes for the round head, also tee bar type are available. They are plastic heads that you press on to a allen head cap screw. Alailable from Pacific Fasteners in Burnaby 604-294-9411. I just bought 24 of them, not cheap at .79 each for 3/8in.
Good luck Tony
