Can Vancouver Island support the current level of harvest by all sectors.

With the increase in effort can our streams, rivers and inshore grounds support the level of harvest that is occuring on our coast? I am curious of others opinions on this as we are finding it more difficult to catch a salmon, a lingcod or a rockfish. I fish salmon mostly in the lower straits and disreguarding the boomer sockeye season last year have noticed a definite reduction in the amount of springs available.

The Great Lakes seem to support a viable salmon and steelhead fishery with a far larger population base than the Pacific Coast the native home of the species. Gotta wonder what the difference is, hmmmmmmmmmm.

Maybe no commercial fishery in the Great Lakes for these species. Obviously not managed by DFO. Maybe the province of Ontario
and the bordering U.S. states manage things. Their hatchery programs back there have been very successful.
