anybody know how to brine bait using salt fish oil i have heard some people doing it but i donot know how like ratio and technique.

Say is there any way to tell the quality of anchovy when your buying them.
Bought some that looked sexy but ended up being crap. Soft and the bellies would blow out even when well brined ( so far I've been lucky with other brands)
Bumber is I bought 6 packs. rather toss them if I could find some good ones.
One more question: why do I hear so much about anchovy. Seems to be lots of nice looking herring in the shops, I'd give them a go but only have experience with the anchovy, does it matter?

Just wondering the anch. you used were thawed before you put them in if there frozen when you put them in the wont soak up the salt very well and they turn soft i always thaw my bait before i put them in the brine.

Poor quailty anchovies come from them not being starved long enough to clean there stomach's out before being packaged.
