Braided vs. stainless for downrigger.

Just got back from Winter Harbour last night. Fishing for cohoe was like the old days here in Campbell river! Used Scotty braid for the first time, and the amount of Blow Back was terrible even with 12 lb balls fishing on the 50 fathom line. The red stoppers worked fine. Question here is , has anyone gone from 12 to 15lb weights trying to over come the blow back, and if so, what was the result? Going back Friday so an early response would be nice. Tight lines,.........BB

i just put 130lb tuff line on one of my riggers and with a 15lb ball fishing out on the bank side by side with wire it still blows back more than cable. But saying that it is very nice to work with.I couldn't imagine that 200lb scotty line fishing deep. The 130lb test held up great.
Outfiters has the 175lb scotty line in stock.

So far I've been running 200lb P-Pro with 15lb balls and the blow back is far less that the origianl Scotty braid (I have not tried the new low diameter stuff) and it edges the wire out in terms of blow back...but only by a bit. I still belive the benefits of the braid are worth the extra $$.

This winter I finally had enough and tried 15lb balls (12's before), big difference. Big differance too between winter and summer, Scotty braid is ok when fishing shallower water, but in the winter fishing 120 - 180 ft of water the blow back is frustrating as hell.

I've been running the Scotty braid for 4 years now. It's more than paid for itself over the years. I've trimmed a little each year and re-tied the swivel. Much easier than cable.

Their 250# has a large diameter and as mentioned the drop back is a lot, even with 15# cannon balls. I found some red 200# PowerPro (150 yd) at Cabela's on sale. Much smaller diameter than the Scotty - more like cable. I've attached it to the Scotty braid (uniknot to doubled uniknot on the PP) so I should be in good shape for some deep trolling this year.

I haven't had problems with slippage on the red stoppers. I like the idea of an extra section of line woven in for some more "bite". I'll do that change because of the smaller diameter of the PP. When I first put on the braid, I didn't have the red stoppers. Used the yellow/black cable stoppers. They'll work in an emergency, but they did slip.

Can anyone who uses Braided tell me, does it sing in the water like Cable or is there no noise? I rely on the sound of the cable going through the water, when it is singing along you can hear the fish hit, it changes the pitch of the wire when it hits.

Take only what you need.
