Braid vs Wire for Downriggers

I have steel on the third electric i put in the middle, and it hangs back further with more drag than the 200 power pro with the same lead and the same depth. Tryed it today at 80 feet on both.

That's odd...I did same thing (at 50ft) and braided pulled back more. The wire is much heavier than thebraid..should have more effect from gravity.

After trying the powerpro 150lb, i'm sold !
changed my other rigger today.
There's less drag, no issues with rusting, bad crimps etc.

Anybody need a black box ? ;)
No issue with rusting on braided line after '1' trip? wow...real impressed. no bad crimps on braided line after 1 trip out? wow...impressed. You sponsered by company??

I'm thinking gravity doesn't have much to do with the drag but thickness does. If the braid is thicker than ss then it should drag more.

""" gravity""" any of you finish high school?? #1 posts of 2008 and NO way denying it. lmao

I went with the Scotty Dynema line, it was fantastic, but blew back to far. I took Wolf's suggestions, using Sampo swivels and snap-rings to release when the balls hang up on bottom.

After guding since May on the same steel line, I have lost two balls, both when the stops moved causing the ball to stop at the pully, naturally breaking the line. And that's running 15 pound balls to boot.

If Trotac still had the black commercial snubers with the Sampo swivels on one end, and the build in brass spreader on the other, I would still use them, I never had a problem.

WHAT?? forgive my minor 200 posts and opinion but please most humble one, explain gravity under water concerning downrigger line. You feel I don't agree so you should post stupid w.t.f.? get a grip dude!! Without swearing,etc..I have my own opinion to post...so get over it...I'll post what I want! if you don't like it,turn the channel. [:p]

exactly...drag has zero in H20, oh ya... that is what water is on the Periodic Table...won't try to describe that..:D

Gravity does have an affect especially on larger weights...hence why different sized balls create different downrigger angles... I guess mrtrailer's balls are just too small to see this effect. ;) haha [:p]

And you can actually calculate the amount of effect it will have just by knowing the weight of the two types of line...drag can be as well...depends on depth and thickness though.

PS - H2O is not on the periodic table...learn that one in elementary school. Water isn't an element...haha

You are an idiot ! [xx(]

wow, I guess we can assume we've hit the doldrums in the chuck, from the turn this thread has taken.

Back to the topic at hand. I spooled both riggers with the 200 lb powerpro this summer. Loved the braided on the riggers. I don't think I will ever be going back to stainless either.

At least I HAVE balls to speak my mind. I also know water isn't on the P/Chart. You need to learn how to decifer a sentence. HA HA yourself.

That is a great line! I was reading this thread and scratching my head trying to figure out what the heck had happened, you gave me a good laugh.
