I enjoy the fight of a flasherless setup. I regularly run plugs or herring with a dummy. But I often find the opposite to be true with the fight. Fish being chased by flashers sends them on bigger initial runs in my opinion. Like you said it gets more interesting at the boat for sure though.Ha ha… well played…. But jigging seems to be a young man’s sport…. Me? I’m as old as dirt and back in my jigging days I’d go and pound for 12 —16 hour days, day after day after day—in between salmon, dogfish and sole, I jigged my self into residency in the hurt locker with major bursitis in my forearm… like so bad I couldn’t function… it looked like someone had sutured a baseball under the skin of my arm…so I’ll admit, the Scotty thing allows me to keep doing the 12 —16 hour day stuff but without the type of beat/down jigging did to my body.. …
I’ll probably keep doing what I do but will remove that thru-hull and go flush mount after this season…too much risk getting braid in the props when a fish wraps it
All the guys who stay in gear when hooked up… I tried that this morning on a fish and it just ain’t my thing, especially around other boats when the wind is blowing….i was in a fleet of at least 60 boats, every one them on a different tack…. Gong show supreme
And just conjecture here but I suspect the guys who fish flashers have better results staying in gear because the flasher helps lead the fish (??)
I fish with just a swivel and a hook; always have… and typically I get huge amounts of line out on a fish…and that’s not by choice or going easy on the drag…I think it’s part of the territory when they don’t have a chunk of plastic dragging behind them… again, just conjecture but my experience is most fish take off like raped apes and sometimes they end up under the boat, most of the time they don’t
Braid just makes it a bit more sketchy when they do
Yes. I never had much with that wireIt's whatever Scotty puts on from factory. So I'm assuming, Scotty?
Agreed. When I guided there 2 years ago I wasn’t impressed with the lack of etiquette and not respecting starboard tack. . I fished the next set of rocks downhill and did just fine all by myself or with a fellow boat from the same fleetI would agree that most guide operations are respectful of the fact that this is a shared public resource. They play nice with non guided boat
There are exceptions however. Best example of bad etiquette is the Bremner gongshow.
I'm sure there are others.
Yes I know the spot. I will probably drop a line there next week on my way north.Agreed. You need a 12g with slugs to reach me, I stay away from the jackel at all timesYou don’t want lead balls thrown at you? View attachment 118845
Lol so true. I'm boatless at the moment, what's everyone else's excuse?Time for you lot to go fishing.
This is a mid January type of convo, when daylight is short and the fishing dt tremors set in.
For the record, I an bifishual, I like to fish both ways!
I'm on a 10 day break from fishing. Now working and processing fish from my last trip. Off to Hardy and points north after that for 16 days. I use to go both ways as well but considering the current political climate I am on the straight and narrow minded.Time for you lot to go fishing.
