Got somewhat of a mind-bender for all you boat-junckies out there.
Thankx in advance for any and all feedback!.

I have a friend that bought a mid to late 80's Bayliner last summer. The boat has never been stripped below the water line, just lightly sanded every other year for another coat of good ole bottom paint. It now has about 3/16'ths of paint build-up (at least) on her. My friend Gerry, (owner) hit it with a cheapo karcher and was able to blow off about a quarter of it, down to the hull in places but that was pretty much it. I was wondering:

I have access to an industrial sized, diesel fired, 220 amp, 4000 psi (ho ho ho) steam jenny that would just fit into the back of my pick-up. Would this "***** of a machine" be capable of melting off the decade and a half of anti foul or just be a waste of time or possibly just make things worse (212 dgr. steam hitting fiberglass/gel coat)?.

I've always kept my boats on trailers (security reasons) so that anti foul crap is bit of a mystery to me. Just never used it.

Wadya think?????

Would have to say that is a tough one as well.. Did a little refit in the past.. It came down to a heavy grain and a good respirator. Hope it helps.-dirty

The tough spots use a grinder but be carefull thats how i did mine and make sure you have a good respirator like DD said that stuff is very bad or you can try a scraper

Good luck Wolf

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Will give it a go later on and post the results

Thanks for the link Rodbreaker.

Got a couple of responses back w/ reference to a product 'Peel-A-Way'.
One post suggested that the steamer is worth a try but raised concerns about run-off.

Is this a problem. Don't need to do time for this guy!.

The last Marina I did work on my friend's boat at didn't give a s*** about what ended up in the water.
Whether or nor that's legal I don't know-this was in Gibsons.

About the steam cleaner I wonder what effect that might have on the fibreglass in terms of osmotic blistering especially on an older boat.

This just in...

Owner has decided not to go w/ the bionic blaster.

I agree w/ him. Time to buy some chemicals and sand paper.

Thanks again for the input!
