Has anyone changed out their boom mounted Scotty tube style holders to Orca rod holders ?
looks like you can do it with the #428 gear-head mount.

Just changed out my Folbe's to Orcas.....they work very we'll just used a 12in extension... :)

I have rigger that I just used a 459 -rod holder extender- large and attached it right to the boom on the holder mount and to the rod holder.... the other 2 our pro-packs I use the rod holder post then the mini rod extender and just attach the holder.

Thanks, I think I'll change over .:)
Sometimes it's hard to get the rod out of the tube holder.
(could cause missed strikes)

Are folbe and Scotty somewhat interchangeable? Wondering if folbe holders would fit into Scotty rail mounts? Sorry for the hijack.

Something like this ....

that would be how I rig the 3rd rigger out the back :)

I'd like to see it too, my stainless scotty rocket launchers are in breaking mode,
sent a letter to scotty voicing some displeasure, but I need to do something before 750 per rod/reel goes in the drink
the way you rig it can you still run 2 rods off each rigger? I usually run 4 rods is why I ask.
a picture would be good ,

I have cracked one mount running my rods this way on my pro packs.... it is much better since I went to the short extentions... :)

RS, I have been using the exact configuration you describe for about 1.5 years now and I am very happy with it. It's so much easier for my boys to take out a rod and for me too. Never had any issues with these parts. I kept a close eye on the rods at first after hearing some rumours about lost rods but realized after a while it would be virtually impossible to lose a rod from the holder opening by itself. The extension stick does flex and move a bit under pressure but it has not failed yet and shows no sign of fatigue. I had a few double headers where a large spring would yank on the rod pretty hard for a while until I could get to the rod. No problem. I would not use it for hali fishing though. All in all I consider this a major improvement to the standard setup.

Have a lodge customer who has lost 3 outfits using the orcas over the last 2 years..tethers the rods to the boat now... :( one should be careful when halibut fishing

I changed to Orcas with the extensions two years ago and they work well, mainly they get the Rod closer and for short asses this is important, I was a bit nervous to start but havent lost a Rod yet. When you are fishing deeper the ones on the side Riggers do flex alarmingly but I just look away.... Driller

I've learned a halibut can pull a rod out of those faster then you can. I won't be putting a nice salmon set up in one without engaging the lock but then you lose the speed so stats the point?

We switched to the same set up as craven. It is nice not to have to lean out to grab the rod, especially for the vertically challenged. You do have to give a firm upwards lift with both hands, straight up to release the holder. So far the set up has worked out for us.
