Boat Brokers

I am very close to a deal on a boat out of the USA and have been dealing with a broker who has the listing. Whose best interest does he have in mind, mine or the seller?? Is it similar to real estate where one agent works for the seller and one for the buyer? Anyone else dealt with a broker when bringing a boat up from the USA???

had a good experience getting a new truck from the US using a broker from the US. He should have your interests in mind I would think. only makes good business sense. he should also dicker on the price on your behalf if you ask him... if they want repeat business or word of mouth business it only makes sense for them to try to keep you happy. but best to know exactly what you want, and the price your willing to pay. don't tie up there time too much if possible.

He has his own interest in mind! Of course he gets a percentage/commission when it sells. If you are representing yourself then he is extra happy as he doesn't have to share any of the sale with a purchaser's broker. You could ask him if he would kick back a portion of his percentage to you however sounds like he pretty much has you hooked. If you get really close and can't quite settle on a final price perhaps then you could ask what he can do to make the sale work. Good luck.

His first priority is completing the sale. No sale, no commission. His second priority will be maximizing the sale. This means he will only consider advising the seller to drop the price if he believes the sale will not complete unless the price is reduced. Keep this in mind and consider HOW you ask for the price reduction.
