Best choice for Moorage in CV???

Ok,so we have secured a choice of spots to moor the boat for the season next year. We have a choice between Pacific playground and Comox.

My question to you locals is this. How long a run is it from Pacific to Kitty compared to Comox to Kitty? Also,If you had the choice and fished Kitty mostly, where would you prefer to be and why?

I know Pacific is tide dependent, I think a 5-6 foot tide is needed for a 21foot boat. I have not checked Salmon point yet as there was no one there today. Not sure if they do month to month or even year long. Anyone know? Also not sure what kind of tide we would need for our boat at Salmon point?

Any feedback would be great as they will not hold our spot long so a decision is needed sooner than later.

Thanks folks: Ray

It's 7 miles from pacific to Kitty and 21 to comox from Kitty, pacific is better than salmon point for launching(has a dock) more room to manoveur, and better and longer access per tide. Better slips and more room.FA and gdw and cuba libre will have more insights on the fishing.

Thanks for that Spring fever. Also meant to ask if Salmon point still sells fuel?

I have never launched at Salmon Pt, only ever PP.
From PP you are fishing in minutes and can go the cambell river direction if fishing is better up that way.
Same time to go north as south and a shorter run over to the Powell River side.

It is a LONG run from comox to kitty and area and an even longer run south to Hornby. Basically all the runs from Comox Marina are a long way to the fishing grounds.

Fishing wise, if it was me I would more at PP or SP.
You would have to check with others about which is better and why.

Salmon Pt. you don't have to run the trench like you have to at PP. 3 mins farther then PP but worth it.

Plus SP has fuel...PP does not.

Hey thanks for the feedback I wil check into SP and see what they have available.

sp or pp

Pacific has all new lighted gated docks and had just relined the marina and dredged with all new pilings and dock ramps the boat ramp is good but steep and has a dock last year they spent 3 million I heard the campsite is nice also and close to sandy beach and river central location to the islands and desolation sound the marina now has mostly larger boats and sailboats now not a lot sport boats but there is room for them. Parking a trailer can back up down the road in the summer busy weekend but a vehicle no problem right by the cleaning table the season launch was about 250 a year.

PP stands for Prop Prop... Buy 2 cause running the wild river ride they call a dredged trough/tidal river you will need at least 2.

They did do a nice job fixing the marina and they do dredge every couple of years but they have no fuel.

Fuel is a big factor if your mooring. FA has it right. My vote goes to SP as well. I have seen that marina once and it is nice. Good luck in what ever you choose Ray.

Fuel is the big issue, I tow my boat most times, this past summer, $1.10 at COOP or $1.50 at most marinas?? I guess you could pull it out of the water every 3 trips but then whats the purpose in mooring it. Either way good luck Ray I will prob have my boat there a few times next yr at SP just not all season.

Salmon point in a low tide is just as bad as PP. Impossible in a big boat
sketchy in a smaller boat

Well It is a done deal. We will have the boat in at Salmon Point for the season. Looking forward to being able to just drive up and go rather than battling the boat ramps this summer. Guess I will have to learn how to fish the Campbell hump now as well.

Thanks for the opinions and info folks.

Bryan; Here is the rates they have on the website.

http://www.salmonpoint.com/rates.html

We did a full year for 24feet overall and it was 1080 +tax. Tax goes down in april by the way.

We figured we would want 4-5 months anyway and at 216 a month we may as well secure a spot and be done with it. Will give it a try for a year and see how we like it and how we use it.

There is no power on the docks at SP ?

I heard there was a strict policy of no wrenching or working on boat at all there too ?

Gas is handy though !!

Well the boat is finally in the water at Salmon point. It will come out in three weeks foe a west coast trip and then back in until the end of July for another west coast trip then back in till end of season.. I sure look forward to spending lots more time fishing this year than I did last year. Now to service the trailer again and get it out of the driveway and behind the fence for a change.

Wow was just reading this thread. Vancouver prices are a tad higher. I am paying $4500 at Thunderbird/West Van - all in for 28' overall ( 22.5' with pod and bow pulpit)
It is my beautiful little piece of West Vancouver waterfront I suppose......
