Barkley Sound Cabins

I went in to see what was recovered and if any of my stuff was there, but got a deer in the head lights look at the front counter. I was assured the marine crew would get ahold of me......so far nothing

My cabin is right around the corner from Friend island in Elbow cove. There is 6 cabins in the bay and mine is the back one. Just wondering if anyone has been in the bay in the last few days or if you are going through the area if you could take a look for me.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry AT, not been up for a few weeks. Lucky thing is RCMP have been patrolling area and checking cabins. I still haven't heard back from RCMP to follow up. Trying to talk my better half to go up for new years and if I get green light will drop over to check your place. You can try calling Ken Meyers to see if he can check on it as I'm sure he will be up there shortly.

I will be down there for new years. AT maybe shoot me some more info privately and hopefully I can sneak out your way . Searun if you get the green light let me know maybe run into you down there. Looks like my wife has gathered up guite a fireworks collection for the evening.

Wow, sounds like Barkley Sound will never be the same with all the fireworks. Will mention it to the boss. If there were a few folks down there it might change her (the boss) opinion on going down to the cabin for New Years.

Thanks Searun, I'm out of town for the next bit but I heard on of the other cabin owners from our bay may be going up. But if you do go up please do take a look.

No worries, if we get out I will swing by for a look see. Is your cabin is in the same bay that Kenny Meyers cabin? If so, which side is it and general description so we check on right one.

Finally made contact with the RCMP. They did not catch the folks who were moved into the cabin at Friend Island. Looks like same people took up residence at the yacht club house for a time as well. The Marine Section of the RCMP do regular patrols out there, but they tell me they rely heavily on complaints of break ins and any other suspicious activity from cabin owners and boaters. They would like us each to file a complaint with as many details of what was done to our cabins and what exactly was stolen. They need the report to be filed at the Port Alberni RCMP detachment. The more complaint the more likely we have a serious problem and will result in stepped up action to catch them.

Well that makes scence because I was beginning to think there was a real bad incompetence issue with the police as they were not getting back to me and when I did go in they really had no clue. I'm gonna be very vigilant for a couple days with all my new christmas loot hanging off the back of my boat...lol. I hope they have moved on with the heat if I do see any couples in a tinny with a yammy on the back I will be increasing my trolling speed and having a meet n greet .

Yes for sure, we should all be challenging anyone up there that seems out of place. The officer I talked to asked that if we see anything to cause concern get as much info (description, boat numbers etc) that helps them to establish who is out of place and who they need to stop on the water and search.

These break-ins have been happening for decades. My family's place used to get hit every winter even in the early 1970's. Mostly they would just break in and eat any canned food that had been left behind from the previous season other than a broken lock or door, there was little or no damage. Sometimes it was just pure vandalism. One time the perps shot holes in the walls and doors with a .22, flipped over the diesel heater and **** on the beds.

Every Spring on the first visit of the year it was expected that you would show up to find your place had been broken into.

Classy guys ! :(

Ya I have been hanging out down there since the early 70's between my family's place and now my own , yes there was stupid stuff such as long beach free loaders on the move .It's been years since I have had to deal with this stuff.Normally I would write it off as a small price to pay for a piece of paradise. This time my cabin was actually set loose........ not cool.
Once again the crappy picture I have is a open boat such as a tinny with what looks like a Yamaha out board on the back and two people in it, I would bet the passenger was a woman. Judging by some of the stuff taken from my place and others there is a woman involved.

Interesting evidence. Sure the police would be interested in seeing the pictures even if it is grainy. He said he would challenge and stop any suspicious vessels while out on patrol. The more complaints the easier it is to narrow down the potential suspects and also gives greater justification for doing extended patrols.

ya I have given the feds all the pictures I have etc. They did say this is very low on their priority list when I went i over a month ago but with more complaints maybe they will get a little more active.

just recieved a phone call from one of the port authority employees warning me that there has been pile of break-ins and thefts in the past week or so . I'm heading down fist thing in the morning . If anyone wants me to take a peek at their places let me know in a private message and I will try and see what I can do.

Sucks, I know of two cabins recently broken into. Would be nothing better than hearing someone caught up to them and gave them a salt water bath.

Checked with a few guys to get update. Yes, a whole bunch of cabins were broken into over last few weeks. Useless Inlet and top of Tzartus got hit hard. One vessel seen in area is old fishing boat called Miss April. Could be related to break ins. RCMP have been advised...not doing much about it.
