Barkley Sockeye Opening

Hello, BizTime.

Can't go solo, it isn't nearly as much fun, plus it would suck driving all the way up there to only fish for 10 minutes!

Tomorrow will have a pair of 9 year old boys who are fishing machines!
Hoping to have one net for the other.
Convenient that they both have licences :D

I monitor all channels (which makes for a chuckle when those secretive types say, "Go to that other channel, Bob.")

Forecast is for no liquid sun tomorrow, but for sure Saturday.

Smiley.

What is a sparkly truck

Just a guess here...
Perhaps the small coyote (used to be able to get them in 2 3/4", now only 3") spoon in an Army Truck pattern, overlaid with sparkle flecks. Have a couple of these in the smaller sizes, and they are working.

HOT out there again this am. One Buddy hit Hook Bay at daylight. 16 hooked and played in a tad better than an hour. Another was the sole boat in Cous, limited 4 Gentz in 45 minutes!

The conveyor belt is RUNNING!:D

Cheers,
Nog

Hello, everyone.

Okay, this thing is SO ugly that you won't believe me anyhow.
It is the invention of a 6 year old girl.
She is now 14 and doesn't want me to tell all of you what the secret is ;)

Army truck squirt, with a sparkle skirt inside (trimmed to tentacle length). DO NOT remove any tentacles.
Honest, the best hootchie we have ever used, the thing is that even if this gets the same number of hits as bubblegum etc, the army truck ALWAYS results in more fish in the boat, as if the fish bite harder or something.

I wasn't going to mention the flasher but she has just given permission to share that as well...coho special in silver/purple/blue/green combo.

I have shown many guys over the past 8 years and haven't had anyone try it - they all must think that I am pulling their props!

Smiley.

Smiley,

The sparkly truck is all set to go with a coho special flasher.

We are going tomorrow instead of satuday now. Should be on the water by 5:00 am. Will have the results posted in the afternoon.

Kenz is thrilled to get up at 2:30 and go fishing!

Okay...you fellas got my wife and I convinced we gotta try this fishery. We're leaving Courtenay at 2am tomorrow morning and towing our 19' Campion out to Port. Can anybody tell me where to get the marine weather forecast for the Aberni Inlet and what is a bad wind...SW15=bad?? Do tides really matter? Is it better launching and parking at China Creek (than in Port Alberi)? I'm heading to the tackle shop for a chart, gear and (hopefully) some info.

Thanks in advance
Scott

Scott,

If you can be on the water at 5:00 am that would be the best, Sockeye like the early morning. We usually fish 5:00 till 8:00 - hopefully leave with limits before 8:00 :) Tides don't really matter.

Lately we have been driving to China Creek and launching there, it's not busy at all in the morning and a quick run to the fish. I think the road was graded this week also - it's about 10 min on the gravel road.

When you get your chart find Hocking Pt and fish from there out to Hook Bay.

Hi Scott,
With a 19 ft you will have no prob fishing anytime, but may not be much fun some days.. it is like a big lake. I Launch at Clustsie Haven and have fished the last 7 days in a row..No problem limiting with 4 on the boat before 7 am most days, and I don't run the canal in the dark.
I am fishing closer to town now since no problem getting limits so why run the extra miles.. I will be on the water tomorrow CH 10 If you need help give me a call.

BizTime.

Call me on 06.
I am leaving here at 3, will launch at 4:30.

Instead of running to Nahmint, I'm going to stay close since there has been rain - they'll be moving and word has been that they are being caught from Cous and closer.

p.s. make sure that Kenz calls me on the radio!

Wow, thanks for all the help. Got a couple charts, some gear and lots of advice from Gone Fishing in Courtenay. With all your help too we should make out okay.[:I]

Might even take a shot out towards the broken group if the weather cooperates, never been out there either. It's supposed to be pretty good fishing out there too.

Thanks again all, I will post how we do...unless we do poorly...then you won't hear about it.[:p]

Business Time, A buddy and I are heading up in the morning as well. Leaving town by 3:30. I'll give you a call when we get out there.

Ahhh, the best laid plans of mice and fisherman...couldn't make it this morning as planned:(. I did, however, get up at 2am to turn off the coffee maker and checked the weather. I'm sure the weather network's marine forecast said "strong gales" for west coast south island, but it doesn't look like it happend.

Hope you all had a good day fishing. We'll try 'er again...maybe tomorrow.

Scott

Stupid question here but where is Cous in relation to China Creek or the Boy Scout Camp or Franklin? Fished around there every year but never heard of Cous or I cant remember or Im getting Altimers
