Bamfield

Any one fished Bamfield or offshore this weekend? Appreciated an update.

thanks

Just got back from Bamfield. Fished Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and have 2 shakers to show for it. Fish hard on Swale, Kirby, Gibraltar, and the wall with no luck (too bumpy to take the 8 year old offshore). Only saw 2 fish landed the entire weekend and that included a lot of guide boats. It just died. Nothing happening out at 5-7 mile either from what I could hear on the VHF and chatting on the dock.

Having said that, it was hot last week, and it could be hot tomorrow!

We trolled for the 7 1/2 hours non-stop yesterday.
Our path included San Mateo, Tzartus, Link (inside & outside), Weld (inside & outside), Diplock (inside & outside), then Pill, Rainy Bay, and ended at Chup.
Couldn't go farther out since the family aren't open water fans!

Tally = 3 dogs (1 was big), 1 cuke, and one rockfish.
Not much on sounder and hardly any bait balls, very few birds (either divers or seagulls).
Only a few other boats out there.
We ran 4 rods all day and varied speed, depths, and tacks. Nothing in my tackle box was spared.
The radio indicated that people offshore were doing okay but even they were saying that things have slowed down.

Waiting for August!

Well after hearing you're guys posts, I don't feel so bad now.

We fished Pill Sat, Sun, Mon for 4 or 5 hrs each morning (we don't like running around spending fuel). We trolled Pill from Rainy Bay to Allen Point.

We got 4 for 5 played but they were all under 10lbs.

We played all depths but each one was caught at exactly 120 feet on either green/white coyote or white hoochie trolling @ 2.0

Two of them were hatchery.

just got back from Bamfield, was there from 23rd to 28th, fished 7 mile got our limit of springs, all hatchery 8 to 12 lbs, the wife nailed one 15lbs that was the biggest of the trip.we were using 3.5 inch green & glo coyote at 133' and tomic spoons 4-5" in the 602?? (pearl color). tried bait but not all that productive. Went up the bank 4 miles dropped the gear for hali's and did well, we kept cruising the bank all the way to the gulleys and got all our hali's 42,21 were the two biggest, we also saw a couple of guys in a Trophy try to NET what looked like a 60lber.....that was quite interesting...never seen a net come apart like that before...yeh, they lost it!!!We did see a 96lber on the cleaning table .Tried fishing Kirby, pretty slow, 14 boats...saw two small fish caught. tried the wall same thing. had some buddies run all the way to the rats nose they did very well on coho springs and hali's. We never touched a single Coho the whole trip.Weather was up and down..one lumpy day, two flat days..one day we only got two miles past Beale and turned back. All in all a good trip was had. We're back in Tofino Aug. 9 to 15th hopefully we can hit some bigger fish!!! I would post a few pics. if I could only figure out how!

Any updates on Bamfield area? Heading out August 9th...counting down the minutes as of today. I assume from what I have heard from friends that have been up there , it has been really good!!! Any updates would be appreciated...

Fishing seems to be good offshore from Beale from some recent reports from friends. Any advice for those areas would be appreciated? Heading out to Bamfield August 10th...
Can't wait to flee the city!!

You can't miss the bank on the chart as it is surrounded by some serious deep water. The fishing out there is typically right on the bottom which I believe is about 200 feet. However, you may also pick up Chinook at the 100 foot level so its worth trying if you see them on the sounder.

I picked up a 38 lb Chinook there last year trolling a 4" green glow coyote spoon on the bottom. We've also done really well with Purple Haze and Glow hootchies on the bottom.
