Bamfield tuna shootout - preliminary info release

I'd just like to chip in my 2 cents...I have hesitated about commenting - I have helped to organize race events and a couple small derbies so I DO NOT wish to be anything other than appreciative to the folks working on this. Missing out on last year is my biggest regret of the year.
I have read the things mentioned about keeping the 'derby' from being too competetive and I hafta agree - please choose a format that is participation driven and not towards biggest or most fish!!!!
The week long timeframe is no doubt necessary for weather n water opportunity, but many participants aren't going to have the resources for that many days ( either costs, time, crew - whatever )
Could you consider a 'daily entry' and prize system? and/ or hidden draws for the week long 'grand' prize and award??? Anything that would make everyone feel like they had an equal chance and more importantly, and equal level of participation regardless of their 'pool of resources'
Whatever you decide, I would love to be involved.

You bet! This wont be your average derby and we don't want competitiveness to overtake the camaraderie that is crucial to the fishery. As Jeff mentioned, daily prizes, smallest fish, plenty of draws etc will keep everything fun and an even playing field. We added a few things to the original poster so feel free to take a look. Please don't redistribute the poster yet as it will be constantly changing, but feel free to share the link to the original post so that way they get the most up to date version.

PS more news. Free salt ice all week for registrants, courtesy of Mills Landing! That entry fee is already looking better.

FREE SALT ICE!!!

And this is only day two of the announcements!

I know any boat caring for their fish properly and fishing that whole week will do well on the investment of entry!!!LOL!!

.

Wow, free ice. Thanks Gerry. Any chance you can top off my fuel tanks to! Seriously thats great. Your ice machince will be working over time for a few days for sure.
Put my boat in, (just got the tuna poles this week), and I'm sure I can speak for Trophy Hunter to be in.
I've no problem with the entry fee, but why limit it to 50 boats if more want to join in. The more the merrier I think.

As I've read through the posts I see a few people are concerned about sharing info. That won't be a problem I'm sure, as it's a big ocean out there and the fish are spread out. Lots of room for boats to come together if need be but that is not really the case most times. It will be the perfect time for someone new to join in. The shared info will greatly shorten the learning curve.

Details, details-the more entrants the more details and the more of a paper trail for organisers to wrestle with (even if it is all online.)

This is awfully tempting to bring the Pursuit down for...

Team Pt Hardy is in.

F@q$ , now I won't sleep for a month after reading this thread. Last year was great, but no matter how many times I go, I just never seem to get enough. I might pre fish my way down. Better bring xtra rum! Hey Dave, recognize the guy in the back of the pic?

I'm in Jeff. Thanks to you and the guys for putting the tIme in to make this happen. It was truly a great adventure last year.
Have Jerry book the cabin for me!

Jeff, shoot me a PM about sponsoring.

I think I can work a little magic down here in Washington with Qcove and a few others who will be glad to donate to our tuna bruthas up north.

Kudos to Jerry and Jeff, mills landing, and Kelly and all those who are dedicated to making this event happen.

Tight Lines, Ted

Cool stuff Ted and thanks for helping out. I'm heading down for the boat show on the Saturday and Sunday. Staying at the gatekeepers Saturdaynight. Hope to hook up with you down there. I still have your cell so I'll give you call.

Cheers,
John

Ok, I have my crew nailed down. Firelight and a buddy of mine who is a good deck hand but a tuna virgin. It should be fun and I can wait.

How many boats are we up to now Jeff?

Not sure about entry numbers at this time but I just posted an updated version of the poster. Proud to announce Amundson as our official rod and reel sponsor for the derby. Thanks to the guys at PNT for connecting them with the event. A big thanks as well to the support from a number of Bamfields top rods. We are still finishing up the derby page and will post it here when it's done.
