Bamfield report

Just got back from Bamfield. Fished July 1-4. Mission was Halibut. Tried 7 mile bank for 3 days, saw one as it said bye bye at the boat. Would have had it if my buddy wasn’t screwing with a dog fish. Anyway, loaded up on salmon and did see a group of two boats off load 10 nice butts on Saturday. They were (said they were) fishing “Big bank” is that La porosa (SP) bank?:(

Was fishing bamfield from the 1st to the 3rd, got alot of fish at 7 mile bank, and Effingham Island, had 4 guys on the boat and limited out every day on springs. the springs were mostly 8 to 12 pounds or so. we got three Hali without even trying, we just wanted a change of pace and picked up 2 one day in 20 min and one the next day in about 40 min ( both at seven mile bank ) the hot lure for springs was a glow hootchie. got most of them at 60 to 80 feet on the downrigger on day one and two, then on day three we had way more luck at 100 to 110 or so. Hope you have as good a time as I did
the place is fishing Nirvana.
Cheers, Rich

here's a weekend report from one of my brother's friends...

We had a great weekend at Bamfield. Stayed at the Tyee Lodge which was really nice. Our own cottage with our own hot tub. Fishing was pretty
much spectacular as was the scenary. We had our limit of halis (12)
within a total of about 3 hours of trolling for them offshore. Pull thegear up to 60-70 feet and we were into coho about every 5 minutes orless with the odd spring thrown in to boot. I couldn't count the number
of coho we caught offshore. Also fished inshore once we had the limit on
halis. Not as much action but still pretty decent for springs.

Total catch for the weekend 12 halis (10-20lb), 12 coho (up to 13lbs),
and 10 springs. Largest spring was 30. More fish released than I could
count.

Got the boat home safely and now time to regroup and get some work done...

Sounds good there, wish I could say the same for Sooke. 5 consecutive days and eves cant get out with winds

Hello, I just got back from Bamfield. I toko a charter out to Cree island on July 24/2006. We were into 8 fish !!! I think we did better than most. I only saw two other fish being brought in. The weather prevented us from venturing offshore. The Princess (puker) boats where all out at Cree, Mears bluff and Kirby attesting to the bad weather offshore. A buddy of mine recently went offshore though. He was into 20 flatties in 3.5 hours !!! There seems to be a plankton bloom occuring right now in Barkley Sound whenever this has happend before I have noticed that the fishing drops right off. I don't know if the fish try to aviod this type of plankton that blooms in July there, but it would make a lot of sense. It would seem that the plankton bloom usually ends at the beginning of August or so and the fish return in great numbers!

Just came back from Bamfield, fishing was great at Ship rock (Bordelias) constant action all day fishing in 60-150 ft of water downriggers set at 33 & 41 ft. We had 37 springs ranging from 8-26lbs and endless shakers plus 19 coho to 8 lbs. this all in 3 days fishing. We used the new prism flashers with green/chrome 5 inch coyote spoons on a 7 ft. leader it seemed the longer the leader the more fish would strike. These numbers were fish to the boat we would loose at least 7 fish a day. Reminder*** retie your leaders after each fish!!!
Tight lines:D
