AVET Reels

Is anyone usin AVET MXL 6/4 - 2 speed reels for halibut and if so how do you like them?

I have the HX 2 speed model and I love it. I also have a JX single speed model that I love as well.

Finished Business might have some insight on that MXL model.

I have the mxl single speed, haven't used it much, but it seems like a good size for ling/Hali. I wanted something lighter, I will be jigging around Nanaimo a lot and there isn't a ton of Hali but I am sure it could handle one without a problem. If I was fishing Hali primarily I would have gone for mxl 2 speed or the one size up in the 2 speed. Also had a hard time justifying the extra 110 bucks for the 2 speed considering the amount I jig.

I checked them out at the Vancouver boat show all most bought one. They are used by some charter guys in Mexico. They are a well build reel made in California and no off shore parts. You can buy them at Nikka.
Have you looked at MTX by Montauk in New York another great reel.

Ive been using a single speed jx for halis and it works great. I think the mx might be a little small if you intend to use it for hali.

My friend Bill has just purchased an Avet LX4.6 single speed which we are going to load with 65 lb. Power Pro to use for jigging (mainly halis). He has a new Shimano Trevala rod to match with the reel. Looking forward to test the rod/reel on some nice sized halis.
