Abel 11/12 for mooching?

Has anyone used their Abel 11/12 Rove reel for mooching/trolling?Seems like it could easily be done as Abel does not make mooching reels anymore. All you would need to do is add another handle and get used to having the drag knob on the back (maybe easier said than done). Anyway has anyone tried this, and if so how did it go.

I would take a look at the reel foot as they can be the weak link on them ..... not enough meat on the foot, small screws with little purchase.

I have seen them fail on the moochers. There are other choices that are quality and are less expensive.

What is your go to on moochers @Hardy Guy I have Islander Tr3s which are pretty amazing but really like the "click drag" on the Abels. A buddy has the moochers which are not made any more.

After seeing many guide reels and dealing with companies to get parts (which is key to longevity) i would go with islander, coast and amundson for the higher end and of course diawa and shimano for the run of the mill. I don't see many peetze but of course they now have great service if you want to go old school. PM me for ones to avoid...... what good is a reel if you can't repair. There were some good ones discontinued by several companies.

I finally found my daiwa DC 375, loaded it with line and put her on my mooching rod. Hopefully can try it this year.
