Audible Strike Alert

Hey,

Have any of you guys ever played with some form of audible strike alert -- like a bell or something else? Don't know how many times I've been out, farting around with a lure, the boat, my coffee or something look over at the rod and it's popped off the rigger or is pumping away. Would be cool if there was something that could grab your attention immediately. Might try to experiment with a little jingle-bell attached to the rod tip to see if that works.

Isn't noticing your rod pounding during a **** or while pouring a cup of coffee a good part of the exitement of trolling?

Saw a guy fishing in a tinny alone with a dog sitting mid ship looking back at the tip of his rods. The dog alternated watching the rods every 5 seconds or so like he was watching a tennis match. The guy was paying no attention to his rods, just kicking back, looking very comfortable. Sure enough the rod bounced and the dog let out a bark right away and it was fish on.

I use one of those cheap little bells. But it seems that I rarely get a strike on my second rod. Almost all strikes seems to happen on the rod that I am watching. Don't know what's up with that. I usually refer to my second rod (the one with the bell) as my "Hail Mary" rod.

always used a bell when I went out in my tinny (just on the blind rod)...all you need, just tie it on closer to the tip.

i still got the peetz rod hanging with the bell loop with the bell still attached
drives every other boat around crazy when i take it out and hook one , bell ringing the whole time, but they do give me room
but i think this was the first thing seals picked up on , hence no one uses much anymore, guys went from on the end of rods too the end of downriggers , too not much anymore, heck hard to find the good ole bells anymore

if fishing with a downrigger my dad pet a bell on the downrigger. cause when a fish hits it shacks the arm of the rigger cuasing the bell to ring. when fishing that 's usally what i look at is the arm of the down rigger.

i solved the problem by getting new hearing aids. now i can even hear everyone yelling about the bouncing rods as well as hear the clicker going off

There's nothing worse then fishing along and as you pass by another boat the guy in the other boat yells to you.... "Hey.... you got one".... I've had that happen before....lol.

I have never found a good enough way to keep those bells on the end of the rod. Everyone I ever had has came off and deep sixed. I gave up on em, Sometimes it takes the reel screeming line for me to realize something is up, Usually it is when you least expect it, and almost always when you have your hands full.

Thats an interesting idea about the seals. I bet it would be similar to a dinner bell going off...

I think it is just my own comp but all I see is red X where the pics should be... I get that from some sites, I see this site was built with a Mac I wonder if theres some plugin I'm missing in my browser?

Take only what you need.

Try refreshing your page. Or right click on the red x and select SHOW PHOTO. That will usually fix the problem assuming that the link to the photo is not broken. Sometimes the photos get deleted and are not available to the webpage where they are to be shown.
