ARMR2 thoughts?

I have an opportunity to buy these reels for a good price, and they appeal to me as I have a lot of American clients that don't understand the knuckle buster concept. I figure these are a good compromise?

currently running Shammy's and North Coasts.

Pro's? Cons?

I read the MR2's are less favorable over the MR3 due to the smaller arbor? notice much difference on the water?

My boss took me and 3 co-workers out on a charter once. I am very experienced and found the ARMR2 he had on one side of the boat to be horrible to fight fish on because I never felt in contact with the fish. For others on the boat they coulden't have landed fish without it. Im thinking that they could prove to be a good investment. But I promise you will never use the reel yourself. So keep that in mind.

Good luck and hope that helps.

Never used a ARMR2 but have used MR2's and MR3's. You can notice the quicker retrieval of the MR3 when you compare them, but that being said I own one MR3 and my next reel is going to be a MR2 because I want the free spool feature for jigging I will also use it to troll with. At the end of the day when the fish hits and things are happening they are both great.

my 9yo daughter could not for the life of her get a fish to the boat UNTILL I bought her an ARMR2 and now I cant keep up to her!
I think the single action intimidates a lot of people that have not used them before, I think having trust in the drag and knowing how to set each time it is the biggest obstacle to overcome.
I have tried her ARMR2 and I find it a little insensitive for lack of a better word, but it sure turned her confidence around in short order (thanks Derby!)

I have two on my boat, one of the best investments I have ever made for my clients. I do not think you can go wrong with them. Yes, if you are an experienced fisherman you will hate them and there is no comparison to a single action reel. If you have guests that don't have a clue, these reels will make you look like a rock star!

No one gets hurt, fish hits the deck, everyone is happy!

Yes they are a bit different when it comes to the drag and hooking a fish but once you get that down it is almost impossible to loose a fish.

If you do go with one, you will not be disappointed.

My 2 cents!

I think it was bearcove that bought one of mine? I HATED IT, but remember that I used it exclusively when motor mooching. You cant set the hook unless you have full drag on and then adjust it after the set. That is terrible when the fish hits at 14ft of water beside the boat! I imagine the reels would be great on riggers since you have to adjust drag anyways.

Why not just invest in a quality level wind? At least with one of those you can put your thumb on the spool for hook sets or extra drag control I imagine that would be more difficult on the islander.

I toss down a TLD15 when fishing with kids it works great for them.

I have two ARMR2 reels and really like them. Using a 10.5' pole is the greatest. Newbys using the reel do not have to worry about knuckle busting. The family now preferrs to use them over a standard bait caster. They are much easier to maintain than convention reels. Hold lots of line and backing with no wrries about being spooled.
