I gaff up to 50-60 pounds and harpoon over. I use the 6' Aftco Gaff and they are so easy to control a big halibut. They have a tapered shaft and anodized with a 4" hook. I have two, one with a 4" and one with a 5". Pulling them aboard does not require bending over.

Hey guru, the idea of putting a Shark hook (which I already have) into a piece of tight fitting tubing and using the 20lb test line to hold it in, like the advertized gaff, might work just fine. I'm going to give it a try.

Used the shark hook on the 62 lb'er we caught today worked awesome definitely sticking to that method had total control of the fish. just need the pole and some tubing so I don't have to reach over the side next time.[8D]
