Hi All..thinking about heading upto Hardy around the 8th of June, as the tides look good for Hali..Anybody been up there lately with any luck/reports??

Thanks;
Ahab

Went out on Monday...limited on hali's, nailed some nice lings (not in area 12...not to worry)...and limited on black rockfish. Lost 4 nice Springs...they were hard to get a hook into and when we did it didn't like to stay in.

Cheers,
David

My Uncle and his gf...with our catch (there were 4 of us).

I've heard fairly consistant reports for Pine...saw a couple 70's taken last weekend from Pine and Christie. It was so rough that we didn't want to dick around and go for the big guys...just get our chickens and try a lil salmon fishing then come in...was coming back in in 10fters, the odd 12 in there too....waves literally coming right over the bow of the boat...the spray right over top of our 31ft Pursuit...windiest day I've ever seen up out of Hardy.

Thats big water..really says something about the boat..I think I'd wait it out at IV's..I've been in some blows up that way, never 10-12 footers..I'll post when I get back..thanks for the info...

Cheers..Ahab

At first it was a little frightening actually...but then just began to ride it out consistantly and it wasn't too bad...went pretty damn slow at 15knots and took twice as long to get back to the Quarterdeck...surprisingly Goletas was pretty calm (only about 4fters)...Gordon and some other places not so much!

And CA...they were tasty! Still haven't finished it all obviously, but it was tasty that night :D

Went out again today...pretty much same results cept hali's a bit bigger; limit of hali and tons of bottomfish...including a greenling. Except this time our first 4 passes for salmon resulted in 4 big hits...I'd guess all between 18-28lbs...3 hit so hard they cut the leader with their teeth...40lbs test! The luck so far for salmon has not been on our side...but lots of action anyway!!

I see in your picture that you kept a Gabazon, are they any good to eat, and how do you get any meat off the swimming heads? We get them while bottom fishing, and the are a ton of fun to catch because they fight like crazy, but I have never been able to bring myself to keep one!

So I thought it was important to fish halibut in good tides, which I understand to be smaller. I see from the tide charts that the 23 and 24th of May in Port Hardy, there was a very high morning tide followed by a very low noon tide, so that the regular morning fishing time was in a pretty fast current.

I don't get it. I'm planning to go to Hardy around the 12th of June when the tides are small. Maybe I don't have to be so picky on the dates?

Depends where you are Dan. Here is how we did today...another fun day. Limit of halibut and rockfish, as well as a couple beauty Springs.

I'll be going up pretty close to the same time weather permitting. I'll be in the 27 Monaro 'Coriba' running up from Vancouver.

We will need fuel obviously, so if you are at the Quarterdeck or the public dock, we'll see you there. Give you a hail on 16.
