Here comes the long weekend, wishing everyone a Happy Labour Day and a great weekend on the water, fishing, boating, being.

The Alpine Juan de Fuca Derby is just over a week away on September 8, and the contest to win 2 tix on FB closes this weekend! Go there to get in on the draw! Remember, first prize is $20K cash! And top 10 fish win cash prizes!

I think everyone should be made aware that all the cash prize money for this derby has been donated by the sponsors. That is a big deal!!! This means that a very high percentage of the ticket revenues goes directly to the Sooke Chinook pen project. This means that if this derby sells the number of tickets it should with the prize board offered...a very big chunk of the annual net pens costs will be covered by this one event. I don't fish a lot of derbies, never have. but I have my 3 rod tickets for this one. A great cause that all JDFS fishers should support as it raises fish for our SRKW and our back yard fishery.

Man I’d love to go in it but my daughter doesn’t have the fishing time my son has. I don’t want to push it like I usually do and ruin her love of being on the water. Thanks for putting this on again, I still have my favourite lure I won at an alpine derby and it catches the most fish every year. I’ll be in for next year for sure.
