Come on guys not this broken record again. The world has 195 countries and every one of them is clamoring for vaccines. Pfizer and Moderna combined can only produce 1.9 billion doses in 2021, but there's over 7 billion people that need two doses each. Intense worldwide competition for vaccine makes it highly unlikely any country will get all the doses it ordered this year. You're busting to hang this on Trudeau, but could you do better with those numbers to work with?

yeah its amazing what happens when there is political pressure to speed it up. When people look at the numbers and start to express concerns and then those concerns are expressed in media. That then translates into Justin Trudeau our prime minister speaking out saying province are being slow and then our provinces suddenly speeding up.
You ever work for someone, busting your a$$. Then Someone complains to your boss about things not going as fast as they need...your boss reads you the riot act, and you proceed as before because you were already moving as fast as you could...but finally things start materializing on the schedule they would have been on with or without the intervention?

I think there has been enough time to get the groundwork laid that any rhetoric on delays is just grandstanding. No politician is making this massively faster or slower than would otherwise occur

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix provided the update Monday in a news conference, saying there were 584 new cases recorded between Friday and Saturday, 445 new cases between Saturday and Sunday, and 301 new cases between Sunday and Monday.

There was an Oopsie Daisy in politics today so someone needed to write a "it's Trudeau fault" op-ed shiny penny.

Oh come on Alberta ... now your just playing with us.

The United States has reported at least 400,000 deaths from Covid-19 since the pandemic began, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University as of Tuesday afternoon.
https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/coronavirus-pandemic-vaccine-updates-01-19-21/index.html
That's more than the number of Americans who died in World War I, Vietnam War and the Korean War combined, and nearly as many Americans who died in World War II. It's far higher than any other country's Covid-19 death toll.
The pandemic's death toll has risen sharply in increments of 100,000 since the first coronavirus death in the United States was reported February 29 in Washington state. (Later in the spring, two earlier deaths in California were posthumously confirmed to
be from Covid-19.)
  • 84 days after the first recorded death, the US surpassed 100,000 deaths on May 23, 2020.
  • 121 days later, the US surpassed 200,000 deaths on September 21, 2020.
  • 84 days later, the US surpassed 300,000 deaths on December 14, 2020.
  • 36 days later, on January 19, 2021, the US topped 400,000 deaths.

Yah I’m not sure what’s up with these vaccination numbers. I tried to find out if maybe the amount the provinces have received were counted as the 2 doses and some are jumping the gun and using some of what is for the second shot on the first go around but can’t find any info on it. Both AB and Que are showing over 100 %. Or they have received more doses than what is reported. But strange for sure.

Van Morrison proving he's gone batshit crazy.

Van Morrison to start legal action over Northern Ireland Covid ban on live music

Music legend stirs further pandemic controversy, challenging Northern Ireland government’s recent ‘blanket ban on live music’ in court

Van Morrison will challenge the Northern Irish government in court over its “blanket ban” on live music in licensed venues arising from coronavirus restrictions, his lawyer said on Tuesday.

Solicitor Joe Rice said the Northern Irish singer-songwriter, who has released several protest songs against Covid-19 rules in recent months, will ask the high court in Belfast to review the policy.

“We will be seeking leave for judicial review to challenge the blanket ban on live music in licensed premises in Northern Ireland,” Rice said. “We’re not aware of any credible scientific or medical evidence to justify this particular blanket ban … and we’re going to challenge this in the high court.”

The UK, the country worst-hit in Europe by the virus, is struggling with its third and deadliest wave, blamed on a new strain believed to be highly infectious.

Devolved governments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, which have responsibility for health policy, have all imposed strict lockdown measures at various stages of the health crisis.

The Northern Irish executive in Belfast has introduced regulations that prohibit live music in indoor licensed venues in Northern Ireland.

All hospitality and entertainment venues are closed as part of a six-week lockdown, but Morrison is eager to challenge the rules for when they reopen.

Rice noted that the singer had been able to perform in England several times late last year before the British government tightened rules there.

He said he expected the case to be heard at the high court within “weeks”.

Morrison was taking the action “on behalf of the thousands of musicians, artists, venues and those involved in the live music industry”, Rice said.

The singer has stirred controversy during the pandemic, last August reportedly urging people to “fight the pseudoscience” around Covid-19.

A month later he released at two-week intervals a trio of new tracks – named Born To Be Free, As I Walked Out, and No More Lockdown – containing controversial lyrics.

They included: “No more government overreach / No more fascist bullies / Disturbing our peace” as well as “No more taking of our freedom / And our God-given rights / Pretending it’s for our safety / When it’s really to enslave.”

The numbers are out that's for sure. I looked up the numbers and found that they don't have the Moderna vaccines that were delivered Thursday thru Sunday to the provinces. So far the best numbers come from this site.

Trevor Tombe from UofC is using these numbers to make some nice graphs and can be found here.
He often puts commentary to them that's useful.

Here is an example:

"And here's the fraction of doses delivered to each province that have been administered. AB leading with 91.2% of delivered doses administered while YT has administered 9.4%."

The case stats continue to be encouraging in BC, with our daily average now slightly below 500. We are seeing the tail end of the cases contracted in the Christmas-New Year period, and from here I would expect the lowering trend to accelerate as people hunker down in their usual January mode. Daily new cases in the vicinity of 200 a day by mid February wouldn't surprise me.

The joker in the pack though is the new high-transmission variants. If those grab hold in BC then we'll be begging for vaccines like the UK.

Watched the Covid update from New York State yesterday. Due to vaccine supply constraints they think it's going to take the next 6 to 7 months to vaccine everyone over the age of 65. Based on there current weekly allocation of 250k dosses.

Oh man he isn't retired yet?

Legendary musician also famed for being grumpy and hard to work with.

The province revealed its vaccine plan in greater detail on Friday, setting out a rough idea of when the population can expect to be vaccinated.

The proposed schedule is split into four phases:

Phase 1, December to February:

Residents, staff, essential visitors with long-term care and assisted living; people waiting for long-term care; people in remote Indigenous communities and hospital workers caring for patients with COVID-19.

Phase 2, February to March:

Seniors over 80; Indigenous seniors over 65, Indigenous elders; more health-care workers; vulnerable populations and nursing-home staff.

Phase 3, April to June: Members of the general public aged 60 to 79.

Phase 4, July to September: Members of the general public aged 18 to 59.

B.C. is currently in Phase 1.

Here is my take on the vaccination rollout.
The goal is to vaccinate everyone that wants a jab to be done by Sept. 30, 2021.
The question is can we do it with what we have for commitments on supply and what are those odds.

2 vaccines / Pfizer and Moderna
10% chance that we will beat that date by at least a month.
80% chance that we meet that deadline.
10% chance that we fail and it will be sometime after September.

3 vaccines / Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca
20% chance that we will beat that date by at least a month.
80% chance that we meet that deadline.
0% chance that we fail and it will be sometime after September.

4 vaccines / Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson
40% chance that we will beat that date by at least a month or more.
60% chance that we meet that deadline.
0% chance that we fail and it will be sometime after September.

This is just IMHO and don't bet the farm. :)

New York state said based on their current allocation it will take 6-7 Months to do 65+. Based on what they have been promised in deliverys they said it would take 4 months. That also include Heath care workers and essential workers.

as far as at home in bc timeline seems pretty optimistic but given that politician’s like to under promise it seems pretty likely will make that timeline. I also suspect they have timelines for other vaccine approved ect..
