39' Local Built Aluminum Catamaran, Centre Console.

The freeman boats are very cool, I had the opportunity to ride on one a few years ago and it was impressive.

I am defiantly a glass boat guy and would buy the real thing over this but it looks to be the nicest aluminum cat I have seen to date.

It is very hard to shape aluminum to get the nice curves that you get in a glass boat but they have managed to get closer here with this.

No matter how good your paint process is aluminum is very hard to keep paint stuck to....corrosion is tough no matter how many nylon washers or tefgel you apply.

I think this is the first time I've seen an aluminum boat with a stepped hull.
Jaspermarine built another with a stepped hull... Im curious how well it translates into fuel savings... must play havoc with your sonar!

They are also building a fully enclosed center console version of the 39’ Open. Powered with twins or quads and carrying over 630 gallons of fuel.
Stretch that boating season.

Cats use less power and fuel because they are pushing less volume through the water. The ride is much smoother than a mono ,especially in chop. They have some "unique" handling characteristics though!
Cat hulls are very popular in Australia and NZ because so many lauches and marinas are in river estuaries behind formidable sandbar barriers. 'Crossing the bar' to get to open water can be very confronting if wind and tide are not favorable. Launching off waves is sometimes unavoidable, you need to gas it hard to crest a swell before it breaks. Cats land more softly because of the air cushion trapped between the hulls. Likewise a nice ride in chop conditions, but they're not pleasant drifting or anchored in that same chop.

There's a popular boat brand in Oz called Bar Crusher, lol.

Looks like the welding is done an it's off to Coastal Craft for fairing and paint.

This is why boats are made in molds out of glass the amount of fairing required is giving me PTSD. Should just leave it alum and conversion coat it because that paint will be a nightmare to take care of. Labour of love and the cost of custom I suppose!

Beautiful cat forsure!

Yeah, I agree. I like the bare aluminum look. Regardless, this is quite the vessel and I'm sure it'll look stunning once complete!
