2026 Sidney Reports

Where are you getting these squid? How do you decide where to drop?
Not the best image but they look more like horizontal lines on the sounder, even in big schools.

We got into a couple hundred over the weekend finding schools around the inlet. Everywhere from Mill bay to Goldstream. Even when there wasn't much on the sounder, we were still picking them up close to bottom. When it's on it's on...

I was out this morning. First time of 2026. Fished west side of Fairfax for a couple hours with only 1 under size. Tried the east side for a bit and got into a few keepers. Brought home this 74cm and a few prawns. Skinny g on the bottom as per usual this time of year. Empty stomach.

I'll have to get some squid jigs soon and give that a go.

Got out of the office early for an afternoon birthday squid jig. P-Line Squid Slayer Sabiki style rig was the ticket. Got 20ish in a few hours. Going to fry them up tomorrow. Took the kids to the Canadian brewhouse with my mom and got their prime rib and the kids meals, it wasn't some of the members quality but the value just can't be beat. Finished the night off with a rock cover band party at the loft. Pretty dam good day to be alive.
You must be friends with Yuri too! Ha

Been fishing with him for 45 years and he was the first person to take me Prawning in Saanich inlet on his first boat that I drove down to winnachi with him to buy and boated back from Comox in his second….his third is due, He’s a 10 year two footitus guys who does 10-12 feet each upgrade.

Squiding was slower for us yesterday as was Prawning and crabbing but enough to feed two families.

That’s funny we were at the same party!

I’ve known him for about 15 years and our girls go to school together now. Were you squidding over by Moresby?

Popped out in the inlet looking for squid with my little brother (14) this morning. Saw a salmon mark right away and shifted focus. Ended up with a flurry of activity around the tide change and my little bro tied into his first good salmon on the jig. We had it next to the boat, but it popped off before I could yeet it in. Looked to be around 12 lbs. Mega amateur hour as we both forgot our nets. Derp. Would've had it for sure. Ended up landing a nice 71cm that he took home for the fam. Losing the big one will sting for a while, but it'll provide some solid motivation ;)
