2025 Winter Harbour Reports

We just got back from a family trip to WH. Tons of nice coho, and we managed to find Springs trawling deep along the 300 line. Decent bottom fishing still if you head North or South a bit.

We've been doing family trips there for more than 25 years.
Magic is truly the word.

Thanks, that was a good video. We just did a short day trip, got a couple of springs and big coho near cliffe point

Thankfully they don’t seem to mind if it gets a little sporty. You bet, that was Grants Bay, what a beauty spot when you catch it on a hot sunny day.

They’re down island as well, off Renfrew & Sooke. Usually run into one a day. A few years ago there were a lot more.

Looking at making my first trip to Winter Harbour next summer. Can anyone tell me when the best time to visit for fishing for springs and coho is? Also willing to trade a stay at my cabin in Barkley Sound for a stay in WH. DM me if interested.

The later you go, the bigger the coho. The last few years, it seems like coho are around at a decent size from mid july through august. Some years they are hard to get your gear through.

Chinook seem to be around from May long weekend through till now-ish.

So many options for timing, I wouldnt worry too much about when.

Our annual charter is second weekend of August. This year, there seemed to be two different coho populations mixed together: the usual 5-6 lb we see each year at this time, but also a bigger class of 10+ lb.

Springs have always been plentiful on that weekend, just go out to the 300 ft line, drop lures to 150-200 ft, get the net ready. Occasionally, we've landed in a gap between runs so there's a day or where they're scarce, but then it'll come on again.
