2025 Victoria and Oak Bay Reports

A little calmer today, so we got out fishing for Coho just out from Church Rock. Fished 8 to 11 and the only action we had was from 9 to 10.
Kept two clipped and two wild Coho and let go 3 more wild. Fish were caught at 75 ft on the DR, in 400ft of water and using green Alligator squirt hootchies. For some reason white never got a bite..
Pulled the crab trap and got 5 Dungeness and 3 red rock. Lots of females too.

That old boot up top has been up and down the fresh somewhere. Cool.

Fished today 8 to 1130, just out from Church Rock (400ft) and the sane location as yesterday. Not a coho bite at any depth but shakers everywhere. Moved out to 550 ft and had some action.

550 ft of water, 75 ft on the dr and using alligator squirts. Ended up with 2 clipped, 2 wild and let go one wild. All the fish were smaller than yesterday and only five Coho all day.

Got 7 crabs today, but there were lots of females, which made the traps (2) hard to pull up from 70 ft .

Got out for a Monday noon-4pm aft float with low expectations for fish and figured I would get blow off. Lost a beauty coho at the boat at 2 then nothing until 330 and we picked up a 60cm spring and a wild coho off the breakwater. Also had 3 nice crabs outa 20 in the trap. Weather was a perfectly sunny day that layed down nicely. Bonus for me was my son redid the brackets & bunks on my trailer and dropped the rig back at the launch.

Any hali reports? In the neighborhood for the next couple days.

Lazy morning so launched at noon to float around the waterfront. Some pretty messy tide lines full of crap. An hr in rods off the clip sigh, probably kelp or jelly fish. Reset but this time I added some X-10 scent (not produced anymore) and before I sat down the reel was screaming. Got him to the boat and he went straight down under the motors. Back up and hand bombed it into the boat. Finally my skunk is off. 72 cm full of needle fish, out off sax pt 120 ft & 120 on the rigger on a Peetz spoon & a Robert VP rod that is magic in my hands.
At the dock a few guys got some hali and some guys did not from out in the mud hole.

Out off Oak bay today. Fished an hour or so in the "Gap" area and then carried on around the North end of Chatham, Fulford reef and the opposite side of the gap. Encountered no salmon and very little in the way of bird or bait fish. Maybe the baitfish were wiped out by the under harvested surplus of salmon last Summer;) ?

Only a couple of good crabs for myself, lots of effort by the amount of floats. The commercial guy was pulling a string within spitting distance of Willows beach.

I was out today from 8am-2. Pretty slow off esq but my mate did get 2 and we released a couple unders. Was flat calm and free of debri which was nice. We noticed a kelp island with a float entangled and we seen it move a fair distance over the day so we went on a salvage. We pulled a lot of rope and a big commercial trap. There were 3 floats and a few miles of rope. We managed to get the trap and it appeared to have had more traps at some time. I’ve left the trap and rope at the end of the dock float has #313841 hopefully it finds its owners
