2025 Victoria and Oak Bay Reports

If you have recently launched at the Esquimalt Anglers, take a look at the back of your trailer. I found a plate on the 8th Sept about 10am. I put the plate on the box where we return fish heads. I had to wade out to my knees to retrieve it, but i needed to clean the fish off my croc's anyway. 2 springs 75 and 80cm 120' water, 55' on the DR. White hootchie on a short leader.

Slow for me the last couple of mornings. Guess I better wash my boat.
Seems to be a fair number of coho around. I witnessed a couple of double-ups near the green can. Chinook is tapering down, though a few big stragglers have been caught right out in front of McCauley near dawn. Anchovies seems to be the ticket.
My only mature chinook was at 45' on the DR. A big but unclipped coho at 90'. I guess these migrating fish can be anywhere. Lot's of small bait around the harbour mouth.

Similar story as Eroyd. 4 nice, wild cohos between the green can and the breakwater. All healthy and release along side. Tried yesterday's "winning ticket", the white hoochie, various lures, flashers, shallow and deep but the nook gods were not with me today. Launched at 7:00 off at 1:15.
I noticed the license plate was gone. Hope the real owner got it back.

In my opinion, the tides in the Victoria area are not good in the morning Monday to Friday this week. Then Saturday and Sunday there are good bite tide first thing in the morning, if the fish are around.
As we have all seen, Springs are getting fewer and fewer and the Coho are moving in and in numbers. Just got a catch a clipped one. Usually at this time of the year, we should start seeing some bigger springs showing up.
Good Luck

I got out on Monday for a full day with a couple buddy’s. Started early was pretty quiet so went across to Pedder where we dug up a couple springs by the Can Bouy.
Feeling discouraged and got work done early lines in at 415 out off the launch. Nice hit that didn’t stick then one near the green can that stuck and fought until I needed to steer and it was gone. Went over to the Brochie side of the harbour mouth and did figure 8’s around the many boats coming and going feeling like a cork but luck would have it and a scrappy gal 12 lbs said hello to my little friend. ;-) a freshly taken 6” herring for dinner but still had room for the French Fry.

Oak Bay flats this morning. Very quiet. Little in the way of birds or bait or salmon. Not a hit. The other two boats I spoke to had the same report.

The lazy morning tide was good for bottom fish. Had a few heavies 'let go' of my swim bait. Hanging a treble off the jig hook solved the problem for a 88cm ling.
