Dig the 5 of diamonds, most famous pike lure in all of Canada.Out for a quick row this morning. A nice spring about 5 or 10 lbs. Off Macaulay in 160' of water, 12 ounces, 140' of line; so 50' deep (??).
Trying something different. A fellow in Sooke had luck, so why not.

any coho; anywhere ?Out on the flats 9:00. Trolled there for an hour educating two nice springs then headed out to the deep water to feed the dogfish. They almost feel like a small halibut when you bring them up sideways. Out of bait I jigged for a while, boating a few big Quill backs and finally a legal Ling.
Back on the flats by early afternoon for a couple of hours into the flood, four more chinooks and a couple lost. Nothing big, 8-12 lbs. Short, deep bodied fish. All unclipped. Strong scrappers for their size. I stuck to the weathered No Bananas spoon.
Talked to a few guys at the cleaning station in Pedder yesterday. It was loaded with pinks and not one coho. A couple guys said that they had released one or two unclipped but no keepers to be found so not showing up in numbers yet.any coho; anywhere ?
We caught 10-15 clipped coho today between beechy and secretary, 3 keepers. Anchovies were killing it. Only 1 pinkTalked to a few guys at the cleaning station in Pedder yesterday. I did troll for a bit out in the purple zone after bottom fishing. Nothing for coho or pinks. I have caught pinks just outside the flats in previous years. Only ever caught a couple of coho in the Oak Bay area. They don't seem to swing through there much. Sooke ways, or out further out in the straight would be a better bet for coho.any coho; anywhere ?
Thanks for the report. How was crabbing?Last day of stay-cation before heading back to work tomorrow. My little sister is in town with her kids and hassling me for crabs so I went out to the boat after dropping my kid off at summer camp to drop some traps. Took her oldest with me (14 year old) and we headed off to Pedder Bay dropped traps then went to set up for trolling. Started trolling around 11 or so and was slow for a bit then around 1130 or so the bite came on and the pinks hit like a wild-fire. It had been slow before but then when it turned on we couldn't keep the rods down, double header after double header. Didn't matter what depth, what lure.
Came up on VH68 to report what we were getting an let others know after the first bite. Limited out very quickly even after losing a few fish. The waves there and back were a bity choppy.
Had riggers from 30ft to 69ft all depths hit. One side pink squirt, other side WCFT Mini-PHat E (wee gee clone)
