2025 Victoria and Oak Bay Reports

Out at Constance today, a few dogfish, maybe this guy had something to do with no halibut as they were doing trials, diving then resurfacing
Yeah I was out near Constance yesterday also, saw that too, pretty cool. I’ll use that as my excuse as well, only a couple dogfish for us.
We bonked a couple chickens (77/80) a little closer to Sooke area Tuesday, but couldn’t get the job done yesterday.

Got out this am and things were quiet with only a flounder and small cod. One of my pals needed to go in at noon so we dropped off and went back out. Within ten mins the rods were going off. A few nice scrappy wilds and 2 nice keeper hatchery. Biggest was 12 lbs.crab traps were loaded but mostly soft. Got a few. We also seen the sub as it moved around, also seen killer whales go by . What beauty day to be out.

Late post,

Left the launch at 8:30 dropped off two traps, headed out to the mud flats. Anticipation was high…….as it always is when you haven't fished in 6 months. I had 1 hit that didn’t stick, two cod, and several bait that were stolen, I assume by dogs because of the small twitch on the rod. Fished with herring. Packed up the halibut fishing at 2:30.

Back at the traps, 1 trap had 11, the other 4, but only 2 keepers.

Fished the waterfront. Dads and daughters day and it didn’t get a sniff. Fortunately one trap was full, 7 dungees monsters and 4 red rock. 55 feet, salmon. Girls had a blast playing together and seeing everything going on and running the boat and helping pull traps. My daughter had a great nap and had the best time with the older daughter my buddy brought out. Best trip of the year. If I can get her into being on the boat as much as her brother is I’ll be a happy dad.

Headed out of the waterfront for a couple hours with my mother and daughter. Had one hit as i was pulling up the lines to check for weeds - 4" sandlance behind a bloody nose flasher, probably half way up in 130ft of water... Handed it off to the 7 year old who spent a bit of time reeling backwards, lol... after sorting ourselves out, she got it to the boat. Sorta wished i grabbed the net, but just as happy to see the ~60cm spit the hook to live another day - didnt get to see if it was hatchery or wild. No other action. Crab pots were full, with lots of softies, but a few in there for dinner tonight. A couple other boats at the dock mentioned it was quiet.

Out with my daughter Sunday afternoon around Oak Bay. Didn't find any salmon, just a few bottom fish and a ~20lb Lingcod a couple of days too early. I know where he lives. We had fun just jigging around watching wildlife.

We were the last boat in, unfortunately second to last was some dude trying to pull a good sized sailboat out with his Tesla in the wind. By the time I'd gone around to the other launch and got my truck he'd aborted. A little bonus entertainment.

We had a fun day at the water front yesterday, had crabs for dinner, trolling didn't produce much, I was using plugs setup and only had one strong hit but didn't get to see it, DFO showed at our boat and that was the first time being checked on the water, it all went well as we had all our ducks in a row :)
