2025 Ucluelet Fishing Reports

Cool. Over the years it's been pilchards, good sized herring, squid, needlefish, krill, plus many years of baby herring and needlefish, and one year of baby rockfish. That"s why I have too much gear.
I once hung a big needle fish from the throat of a Chinook by the nose on my hoochie and sent it down again to get another.

I recall my Dad would use a hootchie over a minnow teaser back in the 60's quite often. Haven't seen that method in decades!

Now those are some needlefish! Tough to pattern on a hootchie because of the length, but when the Springs are on needlefish, they usually are feeding pretty aggressively anyway!

Trouble with those long flash flies is you need to tandem tie two hooks so there is hardware in the back to deal with a short hitting fish. But otherwise, either the long slender spoon, or a long flash fly would be the answer!
In the 1990's I saw off of Chrome Island a boil easily 200 yards long of needlefish. The Springs were just hammering the school.

Got some pals coming to town around the third week in August this year. I'm guessing most charters are booked up already around that time, but if any of y'all could PM me some recommendations for Ukee and/or Tofino, I'd be mega appreciative. Thanks!
