Late Report: Out of Chenauh yesterday with a friend. Heavy fog for most of the morning and a slow day. Lots of shakers, released a couple of wild coho out deep off of Secretary, a few long line releases and my buddy kept a small bleeder clipped chinook. Tried lots of different spoons, hoochies and different depths but it wasn't our day,,,,other than a quality day with a good friend who loves being on the water.

On a different note: As we trolled back into the bay we saw an open boat near the weed bed west of Fraser. It appeared that he was paddling and my buddy thought that he may have been jigging and just holding himself into position. As we got closer, but still at a distance, I waved at him and gave him a thumbs up and I got back what I thought was a thumbs up. He wasn't standing up or waving us over so thinking all was good we continued to troll into the bay and pulled our gear just in past Fraser. I looked back at the boat as I had a funny feeling and said to my buddy that we would go back and chat with the guy to make sure all was OK. As soon as we got closer we could see that he was paddling using a net. To make a long story short, his engine had died. I apologized for not coming closer when we first saw him but didn't get an indication from him as we trolled away that he needed help. I felt pretty bad but the guy was just happy that we came back to check on him. Towed him to the ramp and offered to help him retrieve his boat but he was good. Just a reminder I guess that if something looks "off" out there, take the time to confirm that all is good before wandering off like I did the first time around. (Derail on my own post)

Left the dock at about 5:30am after launching the night before and enjoyed a nice full moon (wicked wind that thankfully died). Fished the trap, possession and Beechy and Beecher bay. 1 67cm spring with a missing chin and 1 nice clipped coho. Long day, but had a great time with a great crew. Derby winner was 23 and top ten were 18 and up if I remember correctly. White hootchie for the spring at 117 feet in the bay.

Fished 2-5pm out of Pedder today. Had 2 doubles back to back between 2:30 and 3pm which included 2 clipped and 2 unclipped coho. 150ft of water with 75ft on DR on one side and 100ft on the other. Released 4 unclipped coho after that. 6 of the 8 were caught on an old beat up, chewed up herring aid wee g. Bring it in, put the bends back in it and send it back out.

Out from Cheanuh today, made our way out to the Bedfords, nothing doing there for us so headed over to Beechey. The wind was blowing together with the tide in the opposite direction made for some lumpy action for a stretch. Waves were cresting in the rips but got a good bite as we made our way through the lumps - still, pretty hard to stand and deal with the fish in those conditions so it was probably best it released itself on the way in. We could see the seas were relatively calm on the west side of those crests so once we cleared them, got the gear set again and trolled back and forth across the current. This turned out to be productive, we were using white hoochies and were picking up good sized coho and the odd monster all the way down to the trap shack. We caught and released 8 coho, not one was clipped, so we came in with dick. Other guys at the dock were luckier, they managed to find a few clipped ones. One guy asked me where I was fishing and I told him fishing the 300' contour more or less with the riggers at between 70-100. He told me that was the reason I got all wild fish because all the clipped fish were in 500' of water. Who knew the clipped fish stay away from the unclipped like that! I guess I'll put that fact in my notes for next time eh?

Started out in Pedder at 7:30am. Nothing but 10” shakers. Must have caught a dozen in first hour and then nothing. Checked my gear and it was missing a piece. Hard to catch anything like that. New one on and more shakers so went to Church. Several doubles of unclipped cohos before getting a couple of clipped ones. Nothing big but 5-6lbs was good enough. 350-400ft with 75 and 85ft in the DR’s. Started trolling closer to Church looking for a spring. 200ft. 2 more doubles of coho and a couple of singles. Most of the unclipped were bigger than the clipped ones. Pulled gear at 1pm and then fished for a couple more hours in Pedder . Released 3 coho, 1 clipped, and released 1 5-6lb spring. Wee G and Skinny G caught most of the fish for me today. Good day overall.

I've got a couple of coho killers like that LOL

GUYS! I caught my first ever white Spring today! A 70cm 8.5lb beauty of a girl who took off straight down about 10 times before I could get her in the boat. Just east of Secretary Island at 90 ft in 350ft after the slack tide. Cop car spoon for the win! I didn’t even realize it was a white spring until we got it home and started filleting it. It was without a doubt, the most tasty salmon I have ever had in my life. Incredible! We also got 2 other 50+ cm springs. 😀
