Well it was bound to happen, first skunk yesterday in 5 Hali trips.
Fished from 7:45 till noon, fed 20 dogfish before I got sick of doing so.
Switching over to taking the kids tubing on Shawnigan until our trip to Ukee on July 21.

Seems like not as many bites last few days for me but bigger fish when I do get one. Caught my largest of the season 3 days in a row now. Mornings or evening same story 45-55 feet on bait.
I have never seen so many guys casting from shore at Beechy Head as I did this weekend I counted 24 at one point. What is the deal there are you supposed to swing wide and give them space or is it ok to take the tack close in like usual and its up to them to avoid you?

I'm surprised the posts here have been quiet, although perhaps people are busy fishing :). Guys are reporting quick limits on Coho in Nanaimo, one saying it's the best Coho he's seen since in Nanaimo since the 90s. I generally prefer being in Sooke, and the slack tides are better timed in Sooke this weekend, but maybe I'll haul the boat up island.

They can wait their turn just like us on that tack.

I've been waiting to see if the coho are around yet. was off Beachy a about 2 weeks ago looking and didn't get one bite or any marks on the sonder. I'm starting my vacation soon and will be out more to find them.

Was thinking of going for hali this weekend and casting for them while at anchor. Don't get many but sure fun when you do and makes the day speed by. Let me know if you go!

Out in Beecher yesterday morning. First trip in a while after a few busy weeks with no time to fish.

Lots of boats which made for some interesting tacks, but it worked out as we hooked the largest chinook I’ve caught in a long time. A 29lb hatchery. Very chunky red fleshed fish. We got it on a small coyote cop car.

Foggy, but the wind stayed away till noon.

Dude! Almost a hatchery tyee. I don’t think I’ve heard of one of those before

We didn't have near the success that @submerged had (congrats on that), but it was a beautiful day on the water. Released a wild around 10 pounds and kept a hatch around 8 in the zone. Also released a couple of Coho and tried for more off Beechy, based on intel from the day before, but didn't find any.

Lots of action today starting in Beecher Bay where I may have primed submerged's almost tyee. Just in front of Lamb island I hooked into a beast that bolted away and kept running. As it finally stopped and I got its head turned, plop, the hook came out. Darn!

Then between the Head and the Trap regular flurries of action. Sometimes half decent springs, sometimes shakers, then a couple of cohos of which one was clipped. One teener at the Trap released, another good runner shook the hook again! Missed another good pin popper bite. Also hooked a nice large black rockfish. So, lots going on and something to take home too. But no pinks yet, none of the other anglers I met at the cleaning station saw any pinks either. Couple more weeks!
