Out at Pedder today with my Grandson as he wanted a trip before heading back to high school tomorrow. Released 3 undersized at the boat and kept a 5lb and a 8lber. Also lost one 5-6lb at the boat. All at the bottom on skinny G’s in 100-120ft of water. 10 other boats in the area and saw a few nets out which was nice to see. 8 crab in two pots. Left the pots to soak overnight and will pick up in the morning.

Late report but was out yesterday to get the traps so we trolled around for 4 hours. What a differences a day makes. Not a nibble until the last pass and it was only a shaker. Also lost a ball as it hooked the bottom as I was trying to manoeuvre around a boat that appeared to be cutting across me. Hadn’t lost a ball in about 4years so wondering if this luck had anything to do with the fact that I was trying out a rod and reel for the first time that I had bought from Stizzla this past summer. 😂🥱Just kidding Stizzla ,,,,,,,,but who knows.🤔🤔. The day was not a total loss as we got 8 crab from two pots.

Went out of Cheanuh on Wednesday, trolled all the way over to Whirl, no action, turned around and headed back, crossing the tide line just south of Church and Bedford had a good strong pop that ended up as a (guess) 9-10lb hatchery spring. I say guess because the scale at Cheanuh wasn't hanging up in the cleaning shed. Was using a red hotspot with a green/black/white skinny G @140'

Fished Pedder yesterday from 8am until noon. 3 to the boat and grandson kept 2 that were 6 lbs as he has lots of room on his card. 3 different spoons so they weren’t picky. All 3 in 100-120ft of water and right on the bottom. Counted 15 boats around the can at one point and saw quite a few hook ups. Spoke to one guy who landed a 12lber. 16 crab in two pots but all females of almost identical size.

Went out of Cheanuh on Friday, fished the bay and right away got into a tussle with what must have been a pertty large fish that just about spooled me before managing to get off :(. Next one was about 7 or 8 lbs I'd guess and I lost that one about 20 ft from the boat. Real amateur hour out there in the rain! Headed over towards the head but when we passed Aldridge the RCMP came alongside and checked our boat reg, operator lic. safety equipment etc. Couldn't find my flares so got a warning to get some more. They were probably on the boat somewhere but to be honest they'd probably be long expired anyway. After that the swell got big short and lumpy so after bouncing around for a bit gave up on that and went over to the Bedfords where we got a few and ended up keeping one about 5 lbs. Nice to get out again even if it was a bit wet out there.

Found a few around Whirl. All average winte cookie cutters. All going with the flood down deep 150-180’. Nothing worth getting too excited about but nice fresh cherry reds. Nicest day of the year out there. Pulled gear and Watched a pod of killers pass by heading towards Vic. Icing on the cake.

You already had your excitement for the month, Mr. 22 pounder!

Went out jigging in Becher in the ol' kayak yesterday. Man, the sun was glorious. I had to take two layers off over the course of the day.

Holy herring. It was a bonanza out there for the birds and other predators. So much so that I wasn't able to lure any salmon away from the free food. At least that's what I'm telling myself. The reality is that my sounder wasn't working properly for most of the day and I don't think it would've picked up any marks. I was seeing some of the bait balls, though, so I thought it was ok. Mega derp. I had reattached the transducer with plumber putty instead of duct seal and turns out it's too porous and the signal was really weak. I fixed it with about an hour left and all of a sudden things looked really fishy down there. Had one smack that didn't stick before coming in. Oh, well, it was a lovely day and a lesson was learned.

Friday was picture perfect so launched the RHIB off Nooma and drop a crab trap off in 60ft Pedder Bay. Flat calm, sunny sky and bait boiling everywhere, went back grapped the downrigger and rod, and headed back out. While most boats were fishing outside the can buoy, I fished the 70 to 85 ft contour and rewarded with a nice 9.5 female hatchery. Green flasher with green sandlance spoon. Pulled the trap, one really nice keeper. Left the trap out overnight, 6 beauty keepers. Two got their get out of jail cards. Then in to scrub winter green slime off Nooma. More power washing today.. Cheers.
