Got a call from Roy at Blue Wolf Charters and he had a free day to get out fishing today, so he asked me to come along. It is always good to get out and BS and do some fishing. Roy had fished the past two days, and he said it was nuts. We depart Sooke at 830 and back in at 1030.

It was crazy fishing and none stop action. In the two hours we had 35 fish to the boat and out of the 35 fish 3 were under the 45cm and only 2 were wild and the rest were clipped 6 to 10lbs. We only kept fish that were bleeding badly and released the others.

Fish were on bottom and white squirt hoochie and 3-inch spoon both worked. I think you could drag a popsicle stick and it would have worked.

There were two other boats out and they had the same action and a couple of bigger fish and they were not fishing near us.

Fishing is fantastic and if you want to have some fun and catch some nice winter springs give Blue Wolf a call, He has some time on his hands with halibut fishing being closed.

Sounds like an awesome day! Were you out near Beechy? I’m heading out tomorrow, wondering if I should stick to Pedder, or go west.

Well we went out this morning thought we'd have a look at whirl, busy busy, lots of boats. Almost like the head in summer! We saw a few boats who had fish on but it was about 10 when we got there and for us no action, so after a pass or two we headed back around Church towards the Bedfords and fished the rips. Got a slam at 140' and had a hard fight with a pretty lively one, guessing 15lb+ but of course when we got it in the net it turned out to be a wild one so had to let it go. :( Oh well next time.

We were in Whirl bay from 8 until 1PM. Slow start and then 9:30 to 10:30 we had 6 to the boat. Kept one around 7lbs, released the others at the boat as they were all less than 4lbs. Dead after that for us. Saw lots of hookups in the same time frame. Fished close to the bottom with different spoons. Beauty of a day out there.

Got out in the kayaks with a pal today down in Sooke. Jigged in the cold slop all morning without a sniff, then, like magic, clouds of fish appeared at around noon, right when the wind died down. We ended up hooking into quite a few between us over the next few hours (115-175' down). Best day yet for numbers this winter, for me at least. Took home the biggest clipped fish - measured 70cm - probably 10ish lbs. Most were in the 6-7 lb range.

We planned to fish out west yesterday, but decided to try a couple passes outside Pedder first. Ended up getting 2 nice hatchery in less than an hour. Lots of action right off the bottom. Released 5 or so smalls and wild. Ended up cruising and bird watching for the next couple hours, to lengthen out the trip. Good morning.

The fish were polar opposites. One being lean and coho red, the other fat, greasy and almost white.
