2025 Powell River Reports

Pretty quiet here in these reports... quiet fishing I guess...

We fished the past 5 or 6 days out of Lund... Sarah Pt, Iron Mines, Mace Point, Mystery Reef, Beer Parlour. We caught a few fish every day, but it was mostly a bust... only wild coho and undersized springs. No keepers.

Two fish were 100-120', the rest were 250-280'. White and pistachio hoochies and a phat-e spoon.

Highlights of the trip was the 16# spring we got on the way across to Lund from the Island off Quadra, and plenty of prawns in the trap each afternoon made for a good addition to dinner every night... plus beauty fun rips up to Teakearne and Refuge Cove.

Lowlights was someone scratching a game of tic-tac-toe into the top of my engine cowl with a key or something while in the marina at Lund and somehow my fishing net went missing off the rocket launcher overnight...

Anyway... still a fun trip...

Staying near Thunder Bay at the end of this month and wondering about the Saltery Bay Park boat ramp which is just down the road.

Have read that it might be in disrepair and wondering if I’ll be able to launch my 19’ aluminum CC there and if there’s any tide considerations?

Yeah, the ramp is not amazing. Low tide is not gonna work. Other than that, it’s a concrete walkway beside it, so a helper is preferred if you like the paint to stay in your boat. Have fun!

Ended up ‘launching’ close to low tide - took two three of us to get the boat off the trailer and a convenient pothole in the ramp to drop the tires lower! For anyone else wondering - the ramp is cracked up and heaved a little, but nothing too bad with a truck.

Fished two days so far, with some good Ling to the boat off Scotch Fir Pt but no salmon action. Wondering about alternatives, and might look further up the coast today.

Going to be in Powell river later this week for work and was hoping to take the crew for an evening fish. Do not know the area at all and hoping to get them into some action as a work treat. Anywhere between nelson island (Vanguard bay and powell river i should hit? Planning to spend the night at the marina at beach gardens.

Appreciate any input.

I grew up in PR but I have only put a few days in fishing there in the last few years. The old haunts from the ‘70s and ‘80s were still productive though and I’ve sketched the approximate tacks on the attached Navionics screenshot. These are all close to, but North or West of Beach Gardens and not between there and Nelson Island. There is a tack in front of Kelly Pt as well about half way in between Grief Point and Nelson Island that may produce as well.
Maybe someone with more recent fishing time there will chime in but this is what I’d start with.

That is awesome! Thanks

You can fish right outside of Beach Gardens or around the corner toward the ferry terminal. Better yet you can hit the Blubber Bay and surrounding area on Texada. I'm not sure how long those areas hold fish but maybe there's some winter feeders down deep as well. We had a crazy whale show in that area one August.

Can I also say how much I love Beach Gardens?!! Maybe because it was refuge from terrible seas the first time I went. Maybe it's the creepy indoor pool. It can't be the fuel prices.

Go into Powell River Outdoors (PRO) and talk to Sam. He has a map there and will gladly show you the spots out front where fish are hitting right now while staging for the hatchery river.

Kelly Point/Coho Point was productive when I was there a couple of weeks ago, 200ft coho and springs.
