we decided to go out today , the wind was barely manageable but we toughed it out , lots of undersized coho, several undersized springs, at the end of the day we kept one spring at 75 cm, and several legal sized coho. 150 feet on white hootchies
There was a window of flat calm this morning. I decided to put my chores aside and go out. Took my little 12ft out as it is an easy in from the beach.
Trolled solo, with the DR down around 80ft. Fishing near structure. Lots of bait around.
Tried out a new 4inch herring aid style spoon. Got lots of action right away. Kept hooking big lingcod. Had about 6 lingcod on. Released ba couple at the boat, the rest got off before I could release them. Also lost a few fish that felt like big hits. Was getting a bit frustrated, then I looked at my spoon and realized I hadn't removed that clear plastic protector sleeve that some come with - damn multi focal contacts !! Total rookie move! Wind was picking up, then I made one last pass through where I spotted bait and fish. Landed a nice little Chinook that made it into the keeper range. Lots of fun for a quick 90 outing. The Chinook has small anchovies in its belly.
