2025 Nanoose Bay/French Creek Reports

Went for a morning fish today. Started at Douglas and caught 2 wild coho, was nice and calm so ran to Sangster. One nice hatch coho and a nice slot size spring. Wind picked up and headed back to Ballenas. One nice hatch coho and a few wilds.
Seemed a bit slower today but with the weather the last week I was kind of expecting that.

Started fishing out of French Creek yesterday morning just a bit to windy to handle the boat and fish by myself so I ran over to Sangster in the hope I could dodge the wind, wrong, but I toughed it out cohos co-operated,ended up keeping 2 hatch and releasing 6 or so wild, also one undersized spring

does anyone know if pinks are running up any of the local rivers yet? (French creek, Qualicum?) I really want to take my daughter down to a river to show her migrating fish :)

Been lots a springs lately , but can anyone tell me why these fish here don't fight ??? No runs , just a few head shakes . On the west side its hit and ruuuuuuuuuun!!!!!!!!

Usually fish so deep on this side that by the time the fish gets to the top, Usually quite tired in comparison to a place like Pt. Renfrew where you fish close to shore and in 60' of water.

we definatly had a couple screamers on today released one that was over 90cm but its usually only the big slabs that do that at 240'

Rad Gumbo, try fishing in the shallow waters off of the river mouths, you will find a world of difference, Reelin in the Years hit the nail on the head.
Thanks for the tip, will try!!!
Great day out there today, Actually got 3 clipped coho along with 5 nice springs (boxed 2) .
And a special hello to the prick who hit my trailer, braking the tail light, hope you get an accute case of food poisoning that lasts the rest of the season!! karma can be a real *****

French creek is the worst I’ve ever experienced

There were some pinks and jack Chinook pooling last week at Big Q hatchery.

Took a buddy of mine over to Sangster yesterday morning lots of coho action at around 70 to 90 feet. came home with a limit of hatch cohos. I have 2 depth sounders on my boat one Standard Horizon and one Lowrance, both of them were entirely useless in tracking the bottom never have had this happen before, WG was active any thoughts?

Interesting. My friend and I were pulling and resetting prawn traps near Yeo and Douglas Island. My sounder was bouncing around, sometimes giving irrational readings. My friend was having a great deal of trouble finding bottom, likely in 350 - 400 FOW.
When we were out there, what looked like 737 sized jet was continually circling between south Lasqueti and over towards Vancouver.
Who knows what was going on, but likely related.

I think there used to be submarines in the area years ago at the base over by Nanoose bay. Designated as Area WG.
